we had a pit bull boxer mix and it was the most gentle dog i have ever seen. my opinion is how they are raised and how much exposure they had with strangers. You do it wrong with that breed and it will eat your face.
We did a test one night by opening the front door and running into the house yelling to see what our pit would do... fucker just ran at full speed into a wall and then dove under the bed.
