I had a dream that I got in a gunfight with some chick... She tried to kill me with her illegal 21 round magazine while I - the law-abiding citizen - could only defend myself with the legal 14 round magazine.
I can't quite remember the firefight; I know that we started off at a distance but I closed in on her. I shot her 3 times in the upperbody at a distance of about a street width, I ran out of ammo and tried to hide in a car. She made her way to the car that I was trying to hide in and shot my legs 4 times with her dying strength. She had a 21 round magazine but I only had a 14 round magazine. I could have died.

You're a criminal and griefer even in your dreams. Maximum magazine capacity in this state is 10 rounds my friend.

Pretty sure you just can't buy anything over 10 rounds because it's illegal to sell them. If you already have them I don't think it's illegal to possess them.

What if I sold a pen for $40 and as a bonus I gave a free 30 round magazine?

In Ca, as long as you had them before the extended magazine ban went into effect on 1/1/2000, you can keep them. But selling, giving, or manufacturing them after that date is illegal.

Deadly Matter]And uh, you prove the date on the magazine in your possession how? I don't think you could. My feeling on it is as long as your gun was purchased before that date, you'd probably be okay. Because why would you have magazines for a gun you didn't own before you bought the gun itself, you know? That's speculation on my part.

So the trick is to make a time machine, put the magazine in it, send it to a person before 1/1/01, have that person leave money in a secret location, and it should be there when you check.
hmm...

If you make a time machine in the future would you be able to tell the past purchaser to give you money on a specific date in the future in order to claim his purchased magazine from before 1/1/01?
Would that defense work, "I made a time machine in the future and this guy just gave me money, idk why"
