So i got to play with this more today, doing the demo with medieval weapons, a training dummy, and a dragon. Mind is completely blown. Its fucking outstanding.
Once the unit is secured to head, all you see is screen, no edges or black borders. The graphics were simple for the demo but it was like being first row at a movie theatre... everything you saw was gameplay.
Wasnt too heavy for playing with it for 30 min at a time, but i would think that over an hour or two it might be uncomfortable.
The coolest part was the accuracy of head movement and the accuracy of your hands in front of your face. This is done by holding two "Move" controllers. The tracking and lag for your hands moving around and grasping things with the thumb button on the controller is perfect no lag. You move your hand to the armor rack, pick up a sword in one hand and a flail in another.
Both weapons turn when you turn your wrist, tilt like they should and the angle of them is perfect to feeling like its really in your hand. The flail was the best part, you can whip the spiked ball around in a circle with a few wrist movements or wind up the momentum on it behind your back and then strike for more damage. Everything felt realistic with movement and physics and way more accurate then i thought it would.
I beat up on a training dummy, doing thrusts with my sword hitting the exact points i wanted to(the balls) and use the flail to decapitate it in one swing. I dropped the flail with my thumb button and picked up another sword to dual wield. I went all HAM on the dummy taking off its leggs and arms and did a double thrust to the chest.
Next up, picked up the crossbow. It put me looking down the sights as long as i held the crontoller in front of my face. No longer does the screen determine where you are shooting, its where the crossbow is aiming etc. I could be fixed on the target with my crossbow and then look to my side or behind me and keep the aim perfect. It feels like you are at a shooting range with a weapon in your hand... not moving a screen with a controller etc.
Last up a dragon appeared on my screen and it felt HUGE. I got a real sense of size because i had to look up to even see it all. It roared at me and then ate me and it all went black.
I feel like this is going to change gaming for quite a few different genres. It's all in prototype phase with hastily put together demo softwares but the possibilities are really exciting. This would be fucking absurd fun for a game like mount and blade, or any shooter out there, or The Show etc.
