INCOMING DRUNKEN ESSAY!
I live in a town of 3,100. It is easy to make fun of a town like this because it is small, and there isn't much to do.
I love the law enforcement here. Where I live I can easily purchase(legally) any weapon used by the police force...fully automatic firearms and suppressors. The police here don't have armored vehicles so I can't comment on that aspect.
The law enforcement here has never abused it's power and they are always respectful. They are the type of guys who do everything they can to not endanger themselves or other individuals. They know most of us own some pretty heavy firepower so they very much announce themselves when they arrive at a door.
They are the kind of people who would be willing to die to protect you, and I would probably be willing to die to protect most of them. When there were talks about assault rifle bans the sheriff was very open about never enforcing them if they were to pass.
These are the kind of guys who will pick up someone who drank too much, and drive them home so they don't attempt to drive while impaired. They won't bust you for petty possession of marijuana(unless you are being a danger to someone). They pretty much let you do whatever you want as long as you aren't a danger to the public or yourself. Hell, if we are hanging out downtown playing guitar the sheriff will show up and play with us.
Many times the police took me home when I was drunk while I was still in highschool and never ratted me out to my parents.
Now, I know that this is not the case in most places. I have run into some pretty douchebag power abusive cops in large cities, and I know a lot of the states you guys live in restricts ownership of certain weapons, but I just wanted to say I feel the big problem has more to do with the type of people who are allowed to serve as law enforcement in those places, and state leadership. Luckily Oklahoma pretty much gives the finger to anyone who wants to limit civilians rights.
I am glad I live in such a tight knit community where the people here actually care about the other people here.
TLDR: Don't hate cops...hate the person who is the bad cop. Your state leaders and people are the problem...not the institution of law enforcement. Good people will be good people...shitty people will abuse their positions. As gay as it sounds, having a larger sense of community would help a lot of the problems. If the police care about your community then they will behave as a "public servant" and will care what happens to the people in it. That also means that you need to respect them as people, and not as a badge.
P.S. I am armed better than the local police force, so maybe there is some truth to that discussion(LOL).

Cops generally work out better in small towns, probably because they usually know what they're getting into so it's less of a militarized us vs them situation. I've had cops in Anchorage draw guns on me 3 times for no reason and have been interrogated using obvious baits and psychological tricks designed to make innocent people admit to things and volunteer incriminating information, once when I was actually helping them. I don't draw an "all cops are bad" conclusion from it the way a lot of people do, but it has made me think that the best way to make any situation ten times worse is to call the cops, which does influence my pro-gun views.
All that shit said, I strongly disagree with the premise that a modest rise in armored vehicles operated by police is a meaningful indicator of creeping fascism.

Roksmokar]Vermi, you retard, the vehicles are donated and the cost is the price of gas to drive to said destination. The cost of training and upkeep is also minimal. This has already been explained to you. Don't ignore posts and then ask for questions that have already been answered.
Define significant amount of life, asshole. How many lives does it have to save to justify it's use in your narrow mind? You are so naive as to the day to day of a law enforcement officer, it's no wonder you are so ignorant on this matter.
I bet if you had a loved one in law enforcement you wouldn't make such prick statements.
Everything you said in this post is completely and totally fucking wrong Rok. And let's not resort to insult's okay? It's childish and you're better than that. First, one of my oldest and closest friends in CHP. He was recently promoted to internal investigations so he doesn't work patrol anymore but he did, for years. Right out of the academy, he was sent to So. Cal (as most CHP are). He volunteered to work Compton graveyard shift. He did this because he was single at the time with no children and he wanted to actually lock up bad guys, not write tickets all day. He said he wanted to work the worst of the worst because he knew if he could handle that, he could handle anything. He's killed someone in the line of duty. It was in the papers here in Sac a few years back. High speed chase that lead to the perp pinning an officer (my friend's CO) in between his vehicle and another car. My friend shot the guy in the throat through the windshield and killed him. He said he genuinely felt the guy was trying to kill the other officer, so he killed him first. This friend matters to me Rok. If he died, it would effect me tremendously. So don't sit here and talk shit like you know the first thing about anyone in my life because you don't. He's a good man and a good cop. He's "one of the good ones". I mean that with utmost sincerity. I've known him since I was 15. I trust him. We've had many MANY conversations about his job, weapons, civilian rights, erosion of civil liberties, open carry, concealed carry, etc etc. He told me he has never once lied in a report or in court. He also told me if he pulled someone over on a DUI stop and they turned out to be a cop, they are going to jail if they are drunk. He told me if he pulled me over and I was drunk, he would arrest me for DUI. The reason for this is not being a hardass. It's because he's had to knock on people's doors in the wee hours of the morning and tell them their children are dead because a drunk driver killed them. He's had a woman die in his arms in front of her husband at an accident scene after being hit by a drunk driver who's had 2 prior DUI's. My point is simply that he knows fist hand how dangerous drinking and driving is and he takes that seriously. Nobody gets a free pass from him on criminal activity, including other cops. That's why he was so thrilled to be transferred to internal investigations. His job is now to investigate and arrest state workers who engage in illegal activity at their jobs. He's not a fan of corruption. Now that that's out of the way, I think you're misunderstanding what I have been saying here. I don't think the police purchased the vehicles Rok. Seriously, how dumb do you have to be to think that's what I am saying? I linked you an article from the WSJ that specifically says they're donated. I am aware that they are donated Rok. I am also aware that they are vehicles. Real property that has a dollar value. They could be sold to other countries. Jeebus knows we have allies that would buy them. I'm saying I don't think they should be donated to police departments when they could have been sold. I am saying I don't think the cost to maintain them is worth the amount of lives they could potentially save. I'm saying that you stating that "they were going to be scrapped" doesn't change the fact that the could been sold rather than scrapped. Are you really going to sit here and tell me that you don't think the federal government could have either sold these vehicles, sold the metal, engines, etc from parts, or used the parts for other things? In your eyes, does a war machine immediately have zero dollar value when it comes back from war even though it still works? You're asking me for numbers and I have given them to you Rok. I showed you numbers from a reliable source that showed you approx 170 officers die in the line of duty each year. How many of those deaths do you really think an armored vehicle is going to prevent? 170 deaths a year is seriously not even a blip on the radar in the causes of death department in the country. Want to know what I think? I think you're one of the people who are okay with police having these if it saves even one officer life. If I am correct on that then your paradigms for rational thinking are so fundamentally different than mine that I truly believe there is zero point in you and continuing this discussion because we will NEVER agree. Since you've had a loved one die in the line of duty I think your judgement on the issue is clouded because the topic is too personal for you. This is sort of obvious considering you resorted to calling me a retard and an asshole. This topic obviously incites strong emotion from you. Emotion is the enemy of logic. Also, you're funny for talking to me about ignoring posts. I didn't ignore anything. There you go again making ridiculous statements of fact without any credible sources to back them up. "...the cost is the price of gas to drive to said destination. The cost of training and upkeep is also minimal." Please back this up with credible source information. Just because you say something doesn't make it true. I didn't ignore your earlier post. I read it and dismissed it because you made similar statements of fact without any credible source info. They have a word for when people make statements that cannot stand up to scrutiny. It's called bullshit.

Fucking Liberal, get your head out of the sand. The Local PD are training to kill US Vets. Don't you read infowars, you should. Mainstream media lies to you. P.S. I am armed better than the local police force, so maybe there is some truth to that discussion(LOL). And here is where G-fist and I differ in our thinking. I actually think this was a great post Ranghar and I agree with most everything you said here. I especially agree with this, "..I feel the big problem has more to do with the type of people who are allowed to serve as law enforcement in those places". Contrary to what Rok and Anti seem to think, I do not hate cops. I actually have a lot of respect FOR GOOD POLICE. When I am approached by law enforcement, which is rare these days, I am respectful and polite. It is possible to assert your rights when dealing with police without being a douche. If you're smart, you know better than to be a douche to them anyway. I have a Placer County sheriff's deputy present at my job every single day from 9 am to 5 pm. I've gotten to know some of them pretty well and we've had many conversations about many things. While I haven't had an opportunity to see them in the line of duty, I'd be willing to wager that all of them are good cops. I say this because after having many conversations with them I believe they are good people. I believe you are right Ranghar. In order to be a good cop, you first have to be a good person. Also contrary to what Rok and Anti think, I actually believe most cops are good people and therefore most cops good cops. However, what burns me up and infuriates me is when bad cops are caught being bad cops and there's no justice. Just go look at the articles I linked you. The cop that shot John Geer, an unarmed man who was in his own home is still a fucking cop. The cops that knocked on Jose Guerena's (a marine vet with no criminal record) door and pumped 60 rounds into him 38 seconds later are still cops. This is true despite the fact that the families of the victims have been paid millions of dollars to settle law suits that resulted from the crimes these cops committed. How does that happen? How does that not bother you Rok and Anti? How are you okay with that?

According to Vermi our police officers with MRAPs are bad for citizens so we should sell them to foreign countries. Sounds like a winning plan homie. Global arms sells of military equipment is good money, and I'm sure the profit will be sweet for the corporation that lands the contract.
Gfist thinks people should make homemade bombs and stockpile weapons for the future revolution. He gets his information from a website that calls for the death Police Officers.
It's hard to even form words about how embarrassed am I to see your idiotic ideas followed by an LoD tag.

I'm going to go ahead and be done with this thread as we're not making any progress at this point.
I just think there's a fundamental difference in the way some of us think and there's no hope of resolving these differences.
I've seen this a lot on the internet actually. I've watched lots of youtube videos of people going through immigration checkpoints and DUI stops and refusing to answer questions. When I read the comments, I see lots of G-Fists and Vermis and lots of Obs', Sonyas, Roks and Antis too. What I mean by that is I see a TON of people saying stupid shit like: "Why didn't they just answer the questions, what could it have hurt?" "All they are doing by refusing is delaying traffic for the people behind them. Assholes!" I also see a few more intelligent comments like "Why are they assholes for asserting their constitutionally protected right not to answer questions at roadblocks from police who have no reasonable suspicion for stopping them in the first place?" and "The people that are causing the delays are the cops who choose to continue to interrogate the driver after they refuse to answer instead of simply respecting their right not answer the questions and letting them be on their way".
As I've watch these arguments play out I've come to realize that many Americans simply don't value their civil liberties. Hell, many of them aren't even aware of them because they're too fucking lazy to read. People that don't care about their rights are never going to see eye to eye with people that do.
DUI checkpoints and immigration checkpoints infuriate me. I'm sure Rok, Sonya, Obs and Anti are completely fine with them. And that's what I mean when I say I think there's a fundamental difference in the way we think that cannot be resolved.
Have fun guys, I won't be back to this thread.

Hey Rok, go fuck yourself. Seriously. I've tried to be nice but now you're just being a flaming fucking faggot. How and where I stand on political issues has nothing to do with me being a solid gamer who makes a valuable contribution to our online gaming clan.
If you ever say something like "...how embarrassed am I to see your idiotic ideas followed by an LoD tag." again, you can go ahead and mute me in coms and assume you will get no support from me in any game we both play ever again. Seriously.
You're taking it too far. If you can't participate in the discussion without getting so emotionally involved that you attack my value to the online gaming clan that we're both a part of, then you need to not participate in the discussion at all.
I actually regret having ever posted in this thread now.
Sorry to all the other guildies. I won't be participating in any of these threads anymore. I thought we were capable of having discussions without some of the faggots in here getting their little girl panties in a bunch and acting like kids on a playground but I guess not.
Fuck you Rok.
