First off, there's no "movement" going on here. I don't attend any political rallies etc. Unfortunately, video games and vagina still occupy most of what little free time I have these days (and that's an entirely separate topic for another day). I don't spend any time on it mainly because of what you just said. It's an uphill battle that I don't have the desire to actively fight. These are fun topics to debate while bored at work though.

Also, what you just said is precisely WHY those that have the time and inclination should continue the fight. Americans as a whole are far too happy to sit around and watch their civil liberties erode away while the government simultaneously allows civilian law enforcement to be geared up in military grade gear that civilians are forbidden from owning. If these two things weren't happening at the same time, I wouldn't be as concerned.

"Those who trade liberty for security deserve neither and will lose both". Words from a founding father. It's too bad smart people like Obs and Sonya don't realize how important those words are in the context of what's transpiring in this country today. Those in power convincing you to give up your rights in exchange for "safety" is not a new concept of course.

Easy way to see if a vet is a right wing extreme terrorist: Cops show up to his house with a warrant, if he goes for his gun - kill him. These are terrorists we're talking about, terrorists have no rights. They can hide incognito but when their feet is to the fire they'll die trying. Trust me, i'm a vet.

....wait....
what if they shoot me and plant a gun on my body?!?! I take it back, I take it back, that's a horrible idea, terrorists do have rights, we just need to catch them after they kill people.

But how can I sit idly by and let terrorists kill people? Ban guns? But then they'll just get a super soaker, fill it with gasoline, go to a black friday mob, super soak the mob with gas, toss a zippo and walk away like a badass... maybe we shouldn't allow people to pump their own gasoline, that's what Oregon does.. but then they'll just attach spikes/cowcatcher to the front of their truck and plow through the mob... I guess the best way to prevent right wing extreme terrorism is to arrest them before they can strike... maybe that's what the NSA is for...

Well lunchbreak is over, time to go to Battalion Formation. Hopefully the NSA doesn't think that I'm a right wing extreme terrorist because I accidentally shared that I thought up new, inventive ways for people to kill people without guns. Luckily I don't have PTSD, which is a completely definitive and recognizably violent mental disorder, otherwise they would think that I would do something so heinous as to kill Americans in cold blood.

It's actually pretty fucking offensive that the DHS is warning that I would do something like that.

btw the definition for ptsd is extremely flexible: :

a psychological reaction occurring after experiencing a highly stressing event (as wartime combat, physical violence, or a natural disaster) that is usually characterized by depression, anxiety, flashbacks, recurrent nightmares, and avoidance of reminders of the event —abbreviation PTSD —called also post-traumatic stress syndrome
-Merriam Webster

oops I'm about to be late, gotta go

I happen to agree with Vermi on government overreach, expansion of police powers, and eroding civil liberties. Where I differ is that I believe a libertarian approach to this stuff takes a disciplined mind. I'm in favor of straight up boring bureaucratic solutions most people are too dumb to understand or get excited about. Basically I think the only way a third party movement can stem the tide of bad policy is with a raw competence that embarrasses the other two parties. Which is why shit like 1776 parallels to violent revolution, reflexively anti-government reactions, and pretending some old fuck from Nevada who breaches contracts is a hero, turns my stomach. Ron Paul trots around with the word Revolution over his head, while Gary Johnson says "The military is 47 percent over budget, cut its budget by 47 percent." One of these ideas has a chance with a complacent public who hasn't seen the ugly side of state-sponsored violence, the other one does not.

I don't think we disagree at all on this topic Hexen, based on what you just said. I agree wholeheartedly that to effect change, it's going to take a non-violent approach that general public can get behind. In order for major reform to take place, the driving fuel is going to have to be an idea simple enough that the general public can understand and get behind.

That's why it's comically ironic to me that Obs and Rok talk about fear mongering at all. Fear mongering is the major weapon in the arsenal the government uses to overreach. Convince Americans they are in danger so they give up their civil liberties with a smile and thank you.

Look at what Obs just said....He's okay with cops being geared up in military grade gear because "there's some crazy fucks out there".

As for Bundy....meh. He's an ignorant racist peace of shit. Fuck him.

I just dont see how this is a talking point when SWAT uses an armored vehicle. If you twist this event to include something else like that homeland security report about crazy vets, you are linking together two things that have nothing to do with each other to create hysteria.
