So you think it is fiscally possible? You do realize that social security and Medicaid/Medicare are going to run out of money by roughly 2035 right? And that our national debt will be roughly 20 trillion by 2016-2018.. The US's total worth, counting natural resources etc. is estimated to be only around 50 trillion. Its not about left vs right, its about economics man. And of course the republicans wont get it repealed, they are playing for the same team as the democrats by in large.

Damn. OK, this might be the key to overlying issue of affordability. The current user pay system doesn't appear (again, I may be wrong, not bothering to fact check) to be regulated at all. This makes it a business of money, not of necessity. I'd be interested to see what the actual cost of medical procedures are in the states compared to Canada. I'll bet you the cost of an appendectomy they are at least three times the price because it is considered an economic generator.

Getting this under control would have to the first step in establishing a universal health care system, at least if it is as out of control as I think it is. Population wouldn't play into it as much as this would, although I do agree the US is getting pretty over populated.

Pretty much this and this is why I have stayed out of this thread for the most part for the last several pages. I haven't read enough to intelligently comment about the ACA because really, I don't care. My job offers insanely good medical benefits and ACA doesn't effect me at all. It's hard to be motivated to read about something that has literally zero impact on me.

Thats the wrong way to think about it though man, if you make it universal and managed by the government, then the government and big insurence companies get together. This eliminates the smaller insurence companies which means less insurence choices for consumers. In parts of the US now you dont have but one choice for healthcare insurence. Much the same as how in some areas certain ISP's have monopolys. When this happens they can set prices to whatever they want because the consumers in that area have no one else to go to. Government might make it appetizing for awhile and give
Subsidies but just like Medicare/Medicaid and social security its going to just run up the debt with no end in sight.

This basically guarantee's profits to those insurance companies government has chosen as "winners" so of course they are happy about this. At the same time it stymies development and eliminates competition within the healthcare marketplace. This is what happened with the housing market when government butted in, and as i said previously thats what led to fannie/freddie failing and being taken over by the Feds.

Competition has always been the main driver of development and the lowering of costs which means more choice for consumers and lower premiums. The ACA does the opposite of this.

Problem with that theory is as soon as you do that..

No American will want to play/be the doctor any longer.. the "American Way" is the "best" but not without faults or exploitation.. everything comes down to the ability to make money

You take away the 'money' & people will simply not do it.. sad to say humans are not ants that work entirely for the hive mentality of pushing them selves to the top as a whole. Meaning, once the money is gone from the system, than any true advancements in it will be gone.

Show me a list of great medical achievements to come out of countries that have socialized health care.. go ahead & put together a list as best as you possibly can of world achievements in the medical world. I will bet that just UCLA Med ALONE will smash the world list of great achievements... Also I would like for you to footnote every single 'world' advancement that was based on the US already 'paving the way' - Again, I will bet dollars to donuts that just about anything anyone else has 'done' actually 'started' here in the US.

Unfortunately, GFist is right & this had NOTHING to do with healthcare itself & had EVERYTHING to do with the Government now being in control of one of the major aspects of our lives. If you think otherwise you are the sheep in the case & actually believe that there is a 'left vs right' or 'dems vs reps' thing going on here.

Wrong & I am not a conspiracy theorist - the American '2 party' system has been exploited for the last 100 years by a '3rd party' pitting the '2 parties' against each other & playing the public for fools. The 3rd party.. eleetists.. progressives.. whatever the fuck you want to call them.. does not give a fuck about America, Republicans, Democrats, etc. They will do everything in their power to achieve their goal & they easily use the '2 party' system against the public to accomplish this.

To give you a hint.. Bush, McCain, Obama, Clinton etc. are all part of this 3rd party - they may label them selves as 'Republicans' or 'Democrats' or whatever they need to call them selves for that moment as they push for power.. but at the end of the day they will all call themselves 'progressives' & all work for that 'progressive' NWO goal..

Shit may take a long time for them to get there.. but they have a plan guys & it doesn't matter to them that it may take generations to accomplish.. Margaret Sanger set out to EXTERMINATE entire races of man nearly 100 years ago.. Now really look at & see what Planned Parenthood has done since...

I know we are smart people here & I really don't have to explain to you why the African American is 'slowly dieing off' - Just look at their numbers for the last 100 years & you can see it.. oh hell just look at the only people still dieing from AIDS/HIV in America.. the only 'people' that are still 'actually' 'affected' by HIV/AIDS is the African American population............... why?

Did we not teach everyone how to use condoms, safe sex, blah blah blah?

Hmmmmmmmm

Much like Blaze.. I could go on & on & on about this but really have to stop myself

- for the record, though it may seem that way.. no I am not another one of those fox news assholes either.. I just come from a Family that has sent every single one of its males for our last 3 generations into the armed forces with the exception of 3 of us.. I feel it is very much my 'good ole boy american' raising that has me here.. not because I am some 'right wing whacko' though my opinions/feelings fall closer in line to theirs

I don't buy into that. It is not how it works everywhere else in the world with universal health care systems, why would it work that way in US? And wouldn't the point of introducing a health care system be to break the backs of the insurers and private corporations? I understand that this idea would be against the political philosophies you hold (less government = better government?) but allowing government to control medical costs to some degree would be better than letting a corporation would it not? At the end of the day the government is accountable to the voter. The corporation is accountable to the shareholder.

Yeah, totally get it. We are not going to stop this shit by talking about it. I just live this shit and am about to be considered 100% disabled. Trust me, I am just going to take the cash and expand my business so I'm not a fucking mooch. Everybody that lives here should at least have a grasp of this shit because mark my words, in the next 10 years this shit is going to effect all of us.

Remove the profit motive like Fly said and you remove the incentives for development.
Limit competition and you drive costs up because fewer entities hold all the chips.
Central planning is a proven failed method of management.

Ready for this? I'm going to blow your mind.

The government is accountable to the corporations and banks because they are the ones who have all the capital that goes into government in the form of taxes then lobbyists get what they want from the government I.E subsidies, tax breaks, government deals to do business with them etc. As long as there is big money in government service we will have a government that is accountable to the banks and corporations before the people. The people with the most money have the most influence in government as it stands now.
