They can express themselves for sure! Just with mutual respect and knowing listening is part of communicating. Our kids know our names for the same reason but you wouldn't catch me letting them carry on a conversation not listening and barking out orders to mom.
Maybe not the extension chord but an immediate stop to that shit.
