No. Rolo linked a study, and I have seen many, many others that all conclude you cannot correlate gun rights to crime rights. Meaning that permitting open carry/concealed carry does not result in a safer society. At the same time, restricting these privileges does not result in a safer society (Rolo made a similar comment previously).

Outside of civil litigation, it's an emotional/philosophical argument and nothing else.

Which begs Rolo's question, if it doesn't correlate, then why restrict civil liberties?

G-Fist, look up the term "Availability Cascade". I first learned about this term in the book, "Thinking Fast and Slow". The author didn't coin the term, it was coined by Cass Sunstein. It explains why dangers with low statistical importance end up being the focus of lawmakers, largely due to media attention.

I wasn't calling anyone here a nazi, i was pointing out the correlation between the departments inacted since 9/11 and their similarity to nazi germany in charter and scope. Does anybody here believe massive entities like the TSA and DHS really need to exist? Godwin's Law doesn't apply to my statement. My views are not that extreme, no victim no crime, right to have complete control over ones own life, including the right to decide when to defend ones self without the approval of a 3rd party/police. The checks and balances to this type of freedom works already, judge/jury. Just remember, unjust laws are not laws.

I'm trying and failing to convince you all of the irrelevance of debating this issue on this scale. You get different results depending on where you conduct the study. The US isn't economically, racially, or culturally homogenous. Our constitution was made during a period in enlightenment thinking where it was fashionable to think of mankind as one huge monolithic entity. You're not going to rationalize your way into a one-size-fits-all solution for a country that spans a continent.

Unless you guys are just talking about California, in which case that's up to you as far as I'm concerned.

What Anti said is something I always worry about though...Some cop drawing on and shooting me during a traffic stop because I have a gun on me. He could easily say I was going for my weapon and there wouldn't be anyone to contest it. My windows are tinted too dark for a police camera to make anything out.

I am always like “Officer, I have a concealed weapons permit and currently have one on my person. How would you like me to proceed?”

So far they have been cool about it and just chat me up about what kind of gun I have.

I did have one at a road block ask me to remove it. I told him I would allow him to remove it, but that I was uncomfortable drawing a weapon in his presence. He looked at me for a minute and then cut me loose.
