The fact is there's too many insane, stupid, uneducated, backwoods(sorry khan), bigot, negligent, assholes in the US with them. i know the old argument of "people that get concealed carry weapons, are the good guys" but history has shown otherwise. 26 mass shootings in the last decade have been by concealed carry users. We just have too many fucking guns out there with people that are too scared and weak to really handle the power of them.
Now this I actually agree with. I am strongly pro-gun but believe it or not, I'm not wild on the stand your ground laws. California doesn't specifically have a stand your ground law in statutory law but rather has a weird form of it in the jury instructions for self defense.
The reason I am against it is for exactly what you just said. Most stand your ground laws simply require that you "reasonably believe" you are in imminent danger of death or severe bodily harm. This sounds okay on it's face but the problem is that without video and audio of the entire incident or reliable eyewitnesses, determining whether someone "reasonably believed" their life was in imminent danger is really fucking hard, especially since the people who ultimately make this decision are a jury made up of those same people you mention above.
What ends up happening is that case in Florida kid. Dunn avoided the murder charge because the jury felt he was reasonably justified in being afraid but is going to prison for attempted murder for continuing to fire at the retreating vehicle.
Now you ask me, that guy is exactly the kind of person you're talking about. If I had a concealed weapon and pulled up at a gas station and saw 4 young guys who seemed "dangerous", I wouldn't say a fucking word. If they said something to me, I would simply ignore them. If and ONLY if they initiated a physical confrontation would I even consider a weapon. But I also carry pepper spray and as a person who believes in the value of human life, I'd use that before I'd pull a gun. It incapacitates someone just as quick as a gun and it's non lethal with no lasting bodily injury. For me, a gun would be a last resort. Unfortunately, I agree with both you and Sonya that I don't trust the average idiots I come into contact with to follow the same guidelines.
