Ranges here in sac will let you rent guns to try out. That might be an option.

I bought a Ruger SR9. They make an SR40 .40 cal too. These guns are like a glock, but about $100 cheaper. Also more safety features. I went with 9mm because the rounds are cheaper.

Good luck finding ammo. I bought my son his first gun for Xmas. .22 Long rifle. Was going to go shooting this weekend. No store in Sac has 9mm, .22LR or .233 rounds, except the gougers charging $.50. Or more per round.

"Purchasers of handguns are also required to provide proof of California residency, such as a utility bill, residential lease, property deed, or government-issued identification (other than a drivers license or other DMV-issued identification)."

Might as well give them a pint of blood and a semen sample too.

charge you for the handgun safety course...
charge you for the background check
charge you to renew your "handgun safety cert"

I hate CA for their nanny law bullshit, but that's some sexy upfront/residual income from all firearms owners.

Did you get him the SR22 so he could graduate to your big guns, or did you get him a rifle? I have to admit...those SR22s are fun to plink on steel plates with.

I find it funny that the KRISS Vector is legal in California when they get their panties in a wad about an AR-15 with a removable magazine.

Only legal because it uses a 10 round glock mag and has a pinned stock...I love how most of the bans revolve around cosmetic features and bullet capacity.

Yeah, its stupid. The Kriss is a far superior weapon for the exact types of shootings they are trying to stop. So is a 12ga mossberg 500 with buckshot. Its not about stopping the shootings, the proposals are more about conditioning the public to accept more government involvment in their life.

Anybody read the new NYC law? That will come to the rest of the states in the next decade im sure.. Or they will try to push it through when another tragedy pops up so they can get another knee-jerk reaction out of the uninformed masses...

Lol exactly, it's just ignorance. There are many people out there that believe it isn't the person, it's the gun.

If you are concerned at all about the security of the weapon when you have it at home, look at Gun Vault . It keeps your weapon safe, loaded and ready for action quickly, but away from any prying eyes or hands. I used mine for years when my kid was smaller, but I just leave mine handy now that he's older.

I have a XD 9mm subcompact for CCW use. 10 round magazine with a 16 round as backup if needed.

As for California. Good luck getting a CCW permit. Unless you fear for your life, they wont issue you one. Also, if you wish to transport a firearm in your car. The gun must be in a locked box in the trunk and its ammo must be locked in a separate container in the trunk making it totally useless in case you need it.

In California they want you to be a victim who is required to rely on the substandard police.
