Don't know shit about guns though. Just want a pistol for home protection/recreational shooting. Something even my GF can shoot. And I don't want a revolver. I am guessing a 9mm of some sort would most likely be my best bet.

Any thing you can recommend?

Has the woman shot before? Most likely a 9mm would be best. That's got a little more punch that a 380. 45acp would be my choice, but depending on the load, they can kick. I do my own reloading for my 45 and purposely load them light.

Was looking at the Sig 1911, mostly because it's always been my fav pistol in BF3. Think im gonna go over to Reeds indoor range and just try a bunch of different guns out.

Kimber 1911 45acp is what I shoot the most. The Springfield 1991's are awesome too. Ruger just came out with a new one that is getting great review.

Gotta decide if you want steel or plastic.

Here's my Kimber...

Sig 1911 is always good if you want a single action only pistol. If you don't mind DA/SA then the Sig P220 is the way to go...Look up the Sig P220 Match Elite. It is a .45 but it has a decocker so you can carry it with the hammer down(unlike a traditional 1911). The only downside to this is that the first trigger pull is longer than the second one, and some people don't like that. The first is like 7 pounds and the one after the first shot is about 4.5 pounds.

I personally like the Double Action/Single Action over the Single Action Only because I don't have to pack it "cocked and locked". The Sig P220 Equinox is pretty sweet too...Hell, any Sig is nice.

EDIT = .45 is perfect for any woman to shoot. It has very little recoil. Every girl I ever took shooting enjoyed it more than anything else in my collection. Stick to .230 grain FMJ for your first few hundred rounds before switching to defense rounds to make sure the feed gets worked in so you don't have feeding issues with hallowpoints for home defense(though you shouldn't have issues with a sig anyway).

If you practice with the DA/SA you will beat just about anything out of the holster. It just requires you to be a little more of a skilled shooter to be dead on with the first shot since it isn't consistent with the second.

If you do the DA/SA route, and I hope you do:), then I recommend practicing in two shot bursts. Unholster and fire two, then decock, holster, and repeat. You will be a pro in no time.

I have a few 1911s and a couple Sigs(p220 and p226). I enjoy the P220 more than the 1911 for most things.

Oh, also...depending on the size of your hands you may want to look at the sig p226 with e2 grips if you have medium to small hands(the Mk25 Navy Seal version doesn't have E2 grips). P226 comes in 9mm, 40S&W, .357 sig. Just make sure you find something that fits good in your hand though. If you have faily large hands then you will be fine with anything.

Third post in a row...sorry...You got me all hot and bothered when you said "Sig". I was going to show you this guy
http://www.youtube.com/user/hickok45

If you search his channel you can find him reviewing/shooting just about any of the guns you are considering. He is one of my favorite gun reviewers. He is a skilled shooter and he reviews the guns fairly.
