Roby check out the smith and Wesson military and police "shield" for a small conceal option that will work for you and the lady. If its only for the home buy a full sized m/p or glock but don't buy over a 9mm. $380 bucks about.

Also a fan of the 1911 style pistols. This is the one I have:

Springfield Armory

I also have an S&W .38 with an internal hammer. Great for shoving into your pocket and with the aluminum frame, it's really light and easy to carry.

Actually just saying his girl might feel better with 18 rounds instead of 8. Give her a little more leeway if she misses. hehe

I actually got my girl one of these...

Walther PK380

It was cheap as fuck...$350.00. Loaded it with speer gold dot ammo. It only holds 9 rounds, but it is a double action/single action and the safety blocks the firing pin completely. The downside is that there is no decocker so you have to put it on safe and let the hammer down, or carry it in single action mode with the hammer back and on safety like a 1911. I was impressed for the price. .380 is just a 9mm Kurz. I tried to talk her into just getting a Russian Makarov(because I feel they are great carry guns for the price), but she wanted that one.

Glock 22

I have the tac light in the picture but obviously you don't need that. I use .40, but would definitely recommend 9mm if you're wife's gonna use it.
