Thing to remember about comics & movies is that most of these comic lines started 50+ years ago & as a result have been "rebooted" several times.. All of 'todays' marvel movies are being done under the "ultimate" marvel universe.
Basically your parents probley grew up on the 'amazing spiderman' story line for example.. while you got to grow up on the 'spectacular spiderman' story line.. but the movies you are seeing are being done as the 'ultimate spiderman' story line.. I hope this helps you understand a little bit more the 'changes' that likely make you upset in watching these movies.
Again this applies to all the marvel movies your watching.
As for your DC universe stuff (batmans, supermans, etc.) all of these movies are being done under the post "crisis on infinite earths" DC universe.. totally awesome actually as I like the DC universe I grew up with as a kid & not my parents DC universe.
For example this is why the start of nightwing was shown at the end of the new batman.. opps spoiler?

On that note I agree Fly but please, no spider-man for me. Give me a good string in some X-Force or a decent Cable comic I will read all day long.
It is in the end what ever the hell I want it to be. When I am through with it, it will blow a hole this wide into the own world's idea of itself. They are throwing bottles at your house; come on, lets go break their arms.

Mmm great picks guys..
Cable offers two sets of great stories with the past/present.
Deadpool is one of my personal favorites.. Heal Factor, Eleet Fighting Ability, Imortality Granted by Thanos, & Multiple Personalities... With my personal favorite part about DP is one of his five total personalities actually breaks the 4th person barrier... Meaning Deadpool is one of the three total toons in the marvel universe that knows he is in a comic book.
If you didnt know Reed Richards (mr fantastic) and She-Hulk are the others to figure it out that they are in a comic book
