Although Rickson is a very good Jiu Jitsu practioner, he is def not the best fighter in the world. considering he got out of the game way before people started cross training, but to all the Gracie Jiu Jitsu loyalists he will always be "the best".
Bas Rutten is a beast, one of my favorite fighters, but he wouldn't beat Fedor.
I've been watching UFC and Pride since I was 14, I've watched a lot of great fighters and listened to a lot of nut hugging about how awesome this one fighter is ect. I just don't buy into the hype of Rickson Gracie, he hasn't been tested in 10 years and even then he fought a bunch of no namers. I am not discrediting his Jiu Jitsu, but as a pound for pound fighter? not the best in the world.
Bas Rutten was a great fighter and to me was one of the best MMA fighters in the world, but due to his knees we will never know how far he could have gone...now even saying that he wouldn't beat Fedor Emelianenko, Watch some matches from Pride of Fedor he beat the best time and time again.
The only loss in 10 years pre Silva and Werdum was an illegal elbow from Tsuyoshi "TK" Kohsaka which opened up a huge gash in his forehead and the doctor deemed Fedor unable to continue. Which should have been counted as a NC, but I digress I've never seen anyone like Fedor.
