I already had an AA. Worked in banking/real estate, which tanked obviously. Went back to school in 2008 into an ABA approved paralegal program and graduated with a 2nd AA in 1 year (11 months actually). I started as a paralegal and never worked for minimum wage. I negotiated a 66% wage increase after four months in a down economy. I work for a civil litigator who graduated Berkley law school (Boalt) and has 25 years of experience. He told me flat out he wouldn't have even given me an interview without a degree and/or certificate from a respected paralegal program.

I'm not trying to take anything away from your accomplishments Fly, they are impressive. However they're not the norm. Most people who don't go to college do NOT turn out successful. There's volumes of statistics to support this statement. Enough to fill Tonk's mother's underwear drawer, and she wears big underwear. As most of us know, billionaire Bill Gates never finished college either. But again, he's not the norm.

Oh yea, and I did take a moderate student loan to go through the paralegal program, $13,000.00. However, the amount of extra money I got per month after my 4 month raise was such that the additional money totaled up over the remaining 8 months of the year could have paid the entire loan off....

Ugh, that's a rough field. I was getting into it for a while (got quite sick of how many retardedly ugly buildings destroy cities and neighborhoods these days) and found put pretty quick that it's not so much about art and design as it is helping developers circumvent bylaws and make more money. Last thing I wanted to do was help fund some fuck-rat's coke habit.

As someone who's been architectin shit for fifteen years now, I owe it to you to tell you to get out now if you ever want to make any real money :P

Also you don't need a masters to get licensed, some schools offer a five year program that gives you a Bach of Science after 4 years and a Bach of Architecture upon completing the 5th. Upon graduating and putting in your 2-3 years of IDP you can sit for your exam.

Yeah I know about the 5 year Bach programs. The school I go to offers the 4/2 program though, and I've already finished my Bach and am working on my Master's. Doing the 4/2 program also kicks a year off IDP, so it evens out. BTW, I've already logged almost a year of IDP smile

It does kind of depress me how little architects get paid... but it seems like you can make a pretty decent salary if you stay in companies that make their bread-and-butter off boring manufacturing-type projects. Still, you would think you'd get paid more after 6 years school + 2 years internship + 7 licensing tests....

Check out this project I worked on: http://www.haskell.com/en/MarketsServed/GreenBuilding/UNF/

I may never be rich, but at least I'll always be able to see the fruits of my work, ya know?

BTW what's your character name Zoraster? I wouldn't mind asking a few questions of a fellow archie smile

BTWx2: I resubbed yesterday. Mostly alt/macroing action for a few weeks until finals pass...
