college is a joke these days anyway. More demand for people with common sense vs. degrees.

Disagree. For one, my profession (architecture) requires a Master's degree for licensing, so I don't really have an option... but even in other fields, I feel like college has become the new high school- it's the expected minimum in the job market anymore.

I'd have to say some of the most retarded people I work with have degrees. Some not, but I'd rather have someone with experience over a piece of paper any day.

Now is just a bad time to goto school unless you can fund a majority of it yourself or get good federal loans.

Kids now a days are taking out 40-90k in PRIVATE student loans. Brainwashed into thinking that they are going to get a good enough job to pay off the ridiculous interest before they are 40.

True, but because of the high unemployment rate, companies are not even willing to interview someone without a Bachelors. They get hundreds of applicants when they post a job and that is a easy way to cut that in half regardless of real world experience. I have several buddies with near 20 years experience that are in this same boat and layed off. One even has 2 associate degrees and over 20 years of real life IT experience. He specializes in Citrix. He cannot even get past the online application process at most companies because he does not have a Bachelors degree. Of course he applied for a desktop support job just to pay the bills and was told he is over qualified. Well no shit!......Companies realize they would prefer experience over a piece of paper, but when you get 500 applicants for a job, they have to have some type of criteria to sift though the applicants.

A college degree now just helps you land a entry level shitty job. You still have to work your way up from there.

No I wouldn't, I'm in school with these people right now. That's why I said it's the new HIGH SCHOOL... college isn't just for the smart people anymore....

And it's ridiculous the amount of debt people will get in for their degrees. I have friends going to Harvard and Yale for their M. Arch, and they're going to come out with 100k in debt.... DUMB! Architects only make around 45k starting.... do the math, that just doesn't make any sense.

Lucky for me, I aced a few tests in high school so my college has been pretty much paid for... I actually turned a profit off undergrad!

I have no college education... Infact, I dropped out of highschool senior year as soon as all my sports programs were done.

Today, I have my own small business & we are currently growing/expanding in this down economy.

Last month I put 2 more people into business for themselves through me & this month I will be hiring atleast 2-4 more.

I supported my lady while she went through college & got her piece of paper @ the cost of a hefty student loan.

That peice of paper got my lady absolutely shit in the job world... Today, my lady is the head paralegal for her law firm & is making good money... but she started as a simple file clerk there at that firm working for minimum wage.. it was her work, effort, exp, etc. that got her there.. not the piece of paper.

I'm not trying to take anything away from college... but it seemed to make little difference in our life. I actually feel I am in a better position in life now than if I had gone to college.. I could be wrong but...

Im 25.. got my own business that is going up in the down market... if I went to college I would probley be 25.. no business.. student loan... and trying to find work/money/etc. in this shit economy..

Again not to take anything away from higher education.. but it seems to me that life worked out 'better' without... but I really cant know that for sure as I'm too dumb to know the ladder from not going on for that extra bit of school'n

*ninja edit - good luck to you & your hubby btw
