Yah, I agree. Should be mandatory. I saw a stat last night on the show that at a point in 1944, we were losing 12,000 soldiers PER WEEK! And that the bloodiest battles were still to come. To put that into perspective, I think we've lost about 5,000 service members since the post 911 war on terrorism has started. Not to minimize the sacrifices of the soldiers of today, but those numbers are just staggering.

Definitely worth it Bal, it's extremely educational also, I've learned more watching these shows than I did in all of my schooling. What's interesting is that the Universe is still expanding, and the generally accepted theory is that it may expand so far that space/time tears and the whole thing is destroyed. What else is interesting is they say that since the Universe is still expanding, it's pulling everything apart, and they predict a moment in time in the very far future called "The Great Freeze", as all the gas in all the stars will eventually burn out and space will be pitch black with only Dark Matter left.

One of the most interesting segments was the one on the moon, and how it was created. The moon is slowly moving away from us by about 1 inch every year, and at some point will not be in Earth's orbit. Although extremely interesting, all of the "end game" of the universe ends in us dieing somehow, so it's somewhat depressing at the same time as it's interesting.

The more I watch this show the more it becomes more clear how lucky we are and how perfect the conditions are on Earth for life to flourish. A lot of things happened in our planets history which if they didn't, we wouldn't be here. Like the massive collision of Earth and (they think another planet), which broke off most of the earths crust and eventually coalesced into the moon and at the same time tilted our access and started the earth spinning, which is the reason we have seasons. Also it's very interesting how much of a role our magnetic field plays in our survival, if we didn't have a molten core of iron we'd be dead. It's so trippy to wonder how many other situations like ours have happened. Anyway, if you like thinking about shit like this, this series is for you, you will not be disappointed, in full HD of course.

Not to get off topic or even change subjects, but also on History Channel is a series I watch every week called "The Universe", fucking AMAZING show if you dig stuff on the cosmos. Each week they do a different subject, whether it be Supernovas, Gamma Ray bursts, Worm Holes, Fabric of Space and Time, Star Creation, Comets, Galaxies, Space Travel, the Moon, and on and on, I sincerely look forward to watching it.

The universe is an awesome show. Big fan of these types of documentaries. Also love Carl Sagan and everything he has done.

No. It doesn't rip. Spacetime will expand to the point where particles can no longer interact in a meaningful way.

and they predict a moment in time in the very far future called "The Great Freeze", as all the gas in all the stars will eventually burn out and space will be pitch black with only Dark Matter left.
No. Thermodynamics tells us entropy always increases, leading to the eventual transformation of all energy to heat, over a very very very long time scale. This is referred to as the 'heat death' of the universe. Also, we do not know that dark matter will remain. We hardly know anything about dark matter, let alone what will become of it (or if it even truly exists) in 50 billion years.

Dang dude, sounds like you should have made the documentary, you seem to know more than the scientists, astrophysicists, and astronomers with PHD's know, I'm glad I came here for my universe knowledge. Obviously everything mentioned is all theory from the documentary, since we don't know 'anything' other than what we can prove and I'm just reiterating what I saw, these aren't my theories. Maybe you should email the History channel and tell them their series has it wrong and should be re-done using your theories. I find it particularly amusing how you seem to "know" things that no one knows, and how you're so confident in how you discount their potential theories, lol. Of course someone from an internet gaming forum obviously knows more than scientists with PHD's who've spent 20+ years studying the universe. Anything else you want to fill us in on? I got my video recorder ready, Sevox theories explored TAKE 2! For real though the bottom line is, this shit is super interesting and it makes you think a lot.

I'm not saying they were wrong, either. I am saying you were wrong. You may have misunderstood it, which is understandable since those shows take ideas spawned from years and years of theoretical development by dozens of scientists and repackage them for a dude-bro sitting on a Lazy Boy eating Cheeto's. They're nothing but doomed to retell the tale in a dumbed down manner. It is like trying to describe a movie to a friend who speaks little English.

I agree though, they are interesting. I like that they broadcast science related stuff to the masses. I wish more people would watch those types of shows, even.
