if you think p90x is garbage, what do you reccommend/ or think is viable instead?

Depends on your goals.

For strength or overall conditioning I'd say give Eric Cressey's "Maximum Strength" a shot, very good routine: http://www.amazon.com/Maximum-Strength-S...7814&sr=8-1

For just strength I'd have to lean towards Jim Wendlers 5/3/1 you and look up his book or check out this free article for the gist of it: http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_artic...d_pure_strength

For mass/size I'd say hop on an 8 week cycle of some test and deca and bust ass for the next 5 years of your life.

Honestly any sort of bodypart split would work for size or hypertrophy training. Moderate to high reps for isolation movements mixed in with some heavy compounds (squat, deadlift, bench.

Like I said initially, diet is key, regardless of the goal (size, strength, or conditioning).

I realize the majority of success comes from a healthy diet. I usually make a fruit smoothie for lunch from fresh + frozen fruit + acai juice. It fills nearly 3 normal sized glasses. Is this too much sugar/carbs for a meal? I think the emphasis on the diet for the first 4 weeks is low carb/high protein. I've never had to question myself about a bunch of fruit not adhereing to a diet until now.

I bought a bunch of wild salmon from Costco and froze it. Plan on having that in salads and by itself about 2, maybe 3 times a week for dinner. Also have tons of frozen chicken breast.

I have Endurox R4 for a recovery drink immediately after a workout. I also have some Whey protein powder for when I may not be getting enough protein from foods.

eh, there are countless books written on this shit so I'll make this brief.

To drop bodyfat or lose weight you need to be in a caloric deficit; eat less calories than your body requires to maintain it's current weight.

To gain weight and add muscle you need to be in a caloric surplus; eat more calories than your body requires to maintain it's current weight.

As for as macronutrient (protein, carbs, fats) goals the general rule of thumb is 1-1.5grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.

The carbs and fats are where professional disagree and it really depends on how your body reacts to them.

So people have success using a high protein and fat diet while others have success using a high protein moderate carbs and moderate fat diet.

If you we are a fat growing up chances are you are hyperglycemic, basically meaning you are really sensitive to carbs. In that case I would try a high fat/protein diet, keep carbs below 80-100g a day.

If you were a rail growing up and are now 30, find yourself getting sloppy, chances are your wife/gf is feeding you too much shit and you work a desk job. I'd eat below your maintnence calories and stick with a higher protein diet, keeping your carbs and fats in check.

As far as calorie tracking I recommmend www.dailyburn.com it's free to sign up and a good way to track your calories for a few weeks until you get your diet dialed in.

I'd stay away from fruits as all fruit is, is fructose which is basically sugar. Which is fine post workout when you body needs the carbs the most. But for the most part i'd stay away from em.

As far as protein: Salmon, tuna, lean beef, chicken, ground turkey, etc. It's not brain surgery. Just takes a lot of effort and dedication to stick with something and see results, shit doesn't happen overnight.

rofl, are you serious? We're talking endurance and real strength. If you want to look like a roided up gorilla I definitely suggest reading those books. If you want to be able to outlast, outwork, and destroy those same guys who can deadlift 500 pounds. If you don't care either way and want to casually work out, then anything will work BUT those books.

lol? Gotta love LoD lackies. JIM WENDLER AND ERIC CRESSEY are SOME OF THE TOP NAMES IN STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING. So immediately discounting their books based on your opinion of them making you look like a "roided up gorilla" show how uneducated about the subject you really are.

So, first of all, shut the fuck up you until you've actually picked up a weight and not a mouse or a keyboard. lulz.

Second, you're absolutely retarded: the only way one can end up "looking like a roided up gorilla" is if that person is "roided up."

Thirdly, since you're some hot shot MMA queer that loves to roll around with other guys on his free time, you should know of all the professional fighters who have hired professional strength coaches to assist them in their training. Rich Franklin, Randy, Anderson Silva, Sean Sherk, etc all have strength coaches on payroll. All with very similiar, if not the same, training methods as Eric Cressey or Joe DeFranco (any of their books are great addition for any athletes library).

Hell...I name drop like it's hot right now. I've gone through strength conditioning sessions with Urijah Faber, Scott Smith, and James Irvin several different times. They all will tell ya that any MMA fighter would benefit by some form of strength conditioning. Hate to throw Lesnar out there, but why do you think he can dominate so damn much? Because he is 10x more athletic, stronger, and better conditioned than his oppenents. More skilled? absolutely not, he just shits all over them in the aformentioned department.

anyway, stay out of the gym. Keep rolling with your boyfriends. Maybe your dreams of Renzo pulling you into his guard will come true.

luuuuuuullllllzzzz

Fuck Jim Wendler. Worlds best powerlifter. I don't give a fuck about Roids, I said that already.

Eric Cressey has written about crossfit. He incorporates some workouts as do they. His mobility workouts and drills are suppose to be fantastic. I guess you never actually read his book to be able to see the comparison. I have it next to me in a stack of poker books but honestly only thumbed through it. I asked for a instructional DVD and got a fitness book during a secret santa last christmas. I was disappointed at my gift from secret santa, and still am. It was probably your dumbass who got my $35 BJ Penn book.
