I have to chme in here... I've stayed out of this whole thing, but if anyone calls themselves a PvPer and thinks WoW is better than DF, then they need a reality check.

WoW is the biggest piece of shit time-sink since Everquest. It may be worse than Everquest. We had to go out of our way to create fun in WoW, and while it was possible to an extent, killing the same guy over and over while he comes back in 2 minutes and dances at you with no repercussions is just gay on all levels. No looting. No shit-talking. No griefing... except for corpse camping. (key word.. camping = boring). I'm not saying WoW isn't great for the PvE crowd, but if anyone's in that group, they shouldn't be in LoD.

Now, do I think DF is the best game ever? No. UO and SB were both better. But have I had more fun in DF than WoW? Yes x 10! The game can be frustrating at times and its travel system definitely isn't perfect, but the large scale battles are un-paralleled, the ship combat is like no other MMO before it and the looting/shit-talking is wide open. I think its pretty bad ass, despite its other issues (have to exploit mobs, travel kinda sucks, naked zerg rushes)... which I think will be fixed with time.

On the other hand, WoW has made it pretty clear their direction, and the only "fixes" they are making is adding higher levels and more PvE content... i.e. carrots for the PvE crowd.

Here's my 2 cents:

I like MMOs, and I like PvP more than I like PvE. If given the choice I will always choose PvP. I'm not all about the drama, the consequences, and the shit talking though. I get a thrill from playing against a human opponent that is unattainable against computersr. I don't think I need to explain why that is.

That being said, I liked WoW a lot more than I did DF. To me, the gameplay sucked and if I don't enjoy the bread and butter of a game, I'm not gonna enjoy it no matter how neat of a concept it has behind it (similar to shadowbane, only playing shadowbane was like playing a fun game compared to DF). Also, does DF really have better PvP than WoW? Maybe, but that itself is an opinion. It seems like a lot of old-timer UO players have created these "guidelines" on what it takes to make PvP fun: tremendous consequences of death, no restrictions, pure "skill" determining outcomes...why are all these things necessary? Can the competition and gameplay not grant satisfaction by themselves? I realize that videogaming, especially MMORPGs, is an escape from real life, but I still think you can liken PvP combat to competitive sports. There is a thrill in just beating someone in a game you play that exists without having to beat them when their down and rob them of every last ounce of dignity.

The grind ruined WoW for me. I didn't want to devote the time necessary to be a top competitor, but I found myself inching towards it and it hurting other aspects of my life. I just wanted to chime in here and say that I like MMORPGs, I love PvP in them and always have (I have never played an MMORPG without PvP), and I don't think Darkfall is/was a better game than WoW.

That being said, it sure as hell would have been a better game if it was created FOR PvP rather than PvE like Darkfall was. There are things (such as legitimate territory control) that make PvP more fun that just had absolutely no place in WoW.

Edit:please note i'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to add to the discussion
