The reason for this is because the game isn't balanced. It nearly impossible for archers and mages to fight melee point blank because there are no skills to support it.

The game is simply going to go two directions. Magic will get nerfed and then melee will be OP or magic won't get nerfed and AoE elemental will be OP and all fights will come down to who has the most AoE casters.

Even if they impliment a hard cap (with out a complete revamp of skills) those are the only two options for the game.



Games like this normally go through many different phases like that. That's part of the ride in any MMO. Darkfall is more balanced in this area since right now anybody can take any skill. So if you see something is overpowered, you don't have to reroll, you just start focusing your time in that skill. When the softcap comes it will create new balance\rebalance issues as to how to play your characters. One month everyone might be hally mage, next month everyone might be healer mage. Until they balance shit out or ruin the game in the process. This goes for every MMO created.



Sigh DF is not balanced at all, thats why they didn't impliment a soft cap because it would have required too much work/effort to balance the damn thing. Most MMOs have class systems, and typically people don't reroll just because one class is seemingly OP. Some might but not any type of majority and it usually gets nerfed.

DF is in a tough place because to impliment a real soft cap thats worth a damn they will have to add some really diverse skills to the game which will give each dicipline some type of advantage / weakness. The answer for it can't be "well you better learn to melee" because that will just mean the skill system is still broke and the game will continue to shit on itself.
