Just a side comment -
The middle and lower classes do not have as much of a say because they are uneducated and naive. For context, it's like giving Dirty Love and I the ability to make serious political decisions in Darkfall for the guild. I like to think DL and I arn't complete morons, but if you give us the ability to make ally/war decisions, LoD would be bound out of a hamlet right now.
There are far too many morons. Yes, some of our leaders aren't as bright as half of our college students... but then those students should major in political science and law, not liberal studies.

I knew that was way too flippant after I posted it- as soon as you said teabagging I was ashamed. Quote:
our country is so apathetic is because we haven't had a major conflict on our own soil.

Exactly, and because we are so unlikely to ever have large-scale combat in the homeland, our wars will continue to be "over there" fought mostly by folks who know next to nothing about the people/culture they are killing/protecting. which feeds into Quote:
another huge contribution to complacency and apathy we exhibit is due to the 'if it doesn't effect me, i don't care' clause.

After the casualties on all sides, the biggest thing I hate about our current conflicts is how painless (massive cost aside) the Bush administration was able to make it for average Americans. Our troops and their families are shouldering nearly the entire burden while we didn't even see a tax increase to cover the war's cost. This is frightening to me because the more the government is able to manipulate public opinion to be favorable towards pre-emptive war as a foreign policy option, while simultaneously making sure that it won't impact us noticeably (in the short term) the more likely we are to find ourselves in "wars of choice"that have little to do with real national security.

don't get me wrong, i in no way was suggesting everyone should have some kind of military influence...was just saying, we have that in common with every country in the world. except our lower/middle class can still choose whether they join the military or not, and do by choice; whereas it's not like that globally.

That said, am I the only sicko wanting to see the killcam from this "firefight"?

i wish all military personnel had high speed cams on their melons with a remote wrist 'fraps' button. that way they can youtube highlights. super high quality intros, badass soundtracks, bullet-time effects and all. hell maybe even some tea-bagging and ping pong victory dances.

That won't happen any time soon.

I'd put up any one of my soldiers against an average American to have an Iraqi culture quiz.
My guy will win hands down.
