but what does vista add as far as what it does? it's not more stable... it doesn't have features worthy of a such a pricey upgrade in order to get the OS to run like XP does... it's just another way for microsoft to slap a new, pretty face on something and get money... the only problem is... everyone is fine with XP and their current systems and the new OS offers too little for people to really budget the "upgrade"

That's a fair argument. If you are not building a new PC, than I wouldn't upgrade. If you have a new PC though, you should not have any problems with Vista and I find the subtle improvements nice.

Isn't Directx10 Vista exclusive?

I bet 90% of the people on this board would give up Windows for OS X Leopard in a heartbeat if there were more games made for Mac.

Yeah, but even companies like Aspyr who ported games over went under. Of course the strategy of making the online games only work with other Mac gamers was a poor move. Instead, Apple just made it to where you could install Windows for your games.

Still the pricing is steep on their hardware when looking at a system that you can upgrade, or soup up. Any chance of OS X being ported to PC is never going to happen (not saying it can't be done, but Apple won't release a version that can be used on PC without hacks), since Apple makes their money off their hardware, and not their software. For fuck sake, they don't even have any sort of verification method to see if you have OS X installed on multiple systems.

I agree though, if there were more, a lot would be moving over. Hell, a lot moved to Mac because of Blizzard doing their usual, and making their games PC and Mac compatible (WoW especially).

There are some non official versions that work on win xp, but from an official standpoint it is...and Directx11 is Windows 7 exclusive.

I love my vista machine, But it's new as of October. I built it, Amd 9850 Phenom x4 2.5ghz, 4gb ddr2, ati 4850 1gb ddr3. It's fast and no problems. I do plan to get another video card to xfire with my tax returns.

I am fooling around with an efi-x chip, homebrew Mac. Nice to have a full on PC gaming system with an OSX partition. As an Apple reseller its always been my biggest beef the lack of hardware choice.

I have no idea where all the Vista animosity comes from. I love Vista and have never had anything but good things to say about it. I never used it before SP1 though, so maybe that's it.

I run a duel boot with Vista Ultimate 64-bit and have no problems infact it runs applications better then XP.

if you already have vista when the beta expires you'll be able to upgrade to win7 for free, if you have xp you will have to buy it

i haven't got to research this to see if it's true and if someone already posted about this sorry - at work and have limited time right now

the website said after beta you can either go back to your previous version of windows or buy 7

Well, either im doing something wrong or windows 7 doesnt like 1024X768

leaves the screen squished with two black bars on each side.
