Does having a mouse like that much more of a difference?

i bought one of those razer mouse (mice?) for gaming a couple years ago. Really happy with it. Very different feel than a lot of other models on the market, but works best for me.
Otherwise I gamed for the past 10 years or so a microsoft optical mouse and had no problem with it.
It seems like people get on the hype train when it comes to keyboards and mouse (mice?) and spend extra money when you don't need to
It feels extra good to PK someone when you know they spent X amount more than you on hardware, keyboards and a shiney new mouse when you spend nearly nothing.

I use a MX1000 still, and it's the exact same as that, with less DPI. Having the extra 3 buttons on the side are crutial, tilting the mouse wheel side to side for more functions, and a mouse button abobe and below the wheel makes for great spells/skill you don't use often (or are timed).
Having something like that makes it great to do something right after a hotkey without having to worry about another hotkey for combos, or a run of commands (Use your imagination).
As for the MX1100, as I said; it seems like a MX1000 upgrade. My MX1000 is still working great since 3 years ago, except the battery is only lasting about 4 days of intense gaming (Use to hold for about 12).

i was thinking about the mx1k but i dont like the idea of a docking stations. i can be pretty forgetful and would hate to be playing then run out of juice. the first one i linked uses batteries. and i have tons of rechargeable ones lying around.

Yeah, the docking station was a pain, but after about 6 months, I got use to it. As long as the contacts stay clean, you're all good.

I still use a very old Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer lol. I love the weight and size, but I am amazed it still works.

I'd consider a high quality corded one.
Best bet for FPS games.
