Lords of Death Forums Lords of Death Forums LoD FPS/RTS/MMO/Console - Public Game to "prepare" for DF?

Since I'm an MMORPGer, not an FPSer, I figure I should start playing one in order to beef up my twitch skills. Does anyone have any recommendations?

In the #darkfall irc channel, AoCh was mentioned, but you need HL2 to play it. Is it worth paying the $20 to get it? Is there a way to get it for free and connect to servers via Stream?

Any competitive FPS will probably help a little. Play online against other players though.

personally I don't think AoCh is much of a warmup for the game.. its so slow if anything it would hurt you imo...

you'll need something thats more fast paced.. maybe TF2.. I play that the sniper has twitch skill involved.. but if you want to get good at aiming and clicking you could play the engie, spy or the scout and use the pistol the whole time.

AoCh was perfect before the sprint nerf, it was very fast paced if you played a footman sword.

Now I've been playing HL:2 Deathmatch, because of the random fragging aspects of it. You have to watch your back all the time, and there are a good number of weapons with different timing and ways to use them.

Being able to avoid damage and strafe/trick enemies will be crucial in DF, so I think any game where you have to use aiming, timing and dodging at a fast pace is good.

Weapon switching will be big too so it's a good idea to get used to using all of your mouse buttons to your advantage.

I've got a little bit of info that can help anyone with FPS. I'm just not going to post it here on the public forums for all the phags and phanbois to use.

Well, WAR has certainly turned me into a strafer...I now have A/F as my left/right strafe keys mixed amongst my ability keys, but I still rely on my mouse for forward movement...I wonder if that's still viable. I suppose if auto-run is available, then toggling that, while using your mouse to aim would work.

I also have a 10-button mouse that I remap the crap out of, so weapon switching and even hotbar toggling won't be an issue.

tf2 is kinda slow too, dod 1.3 4tw!

Not LoD per se, but we have 3 AoCh servers laying around. Too bad no one plays it anymore.
