that's interesting, I think that the people are and should be the highest power in the government and are the final and most important "check and balance" for lawmakers. Now someone's case has to go through the appellate process all the way up to the supreme court to have another beneficial ruling come down in favor of gay marriage?

Your uninformed. They already have the same rights in a civil union. Prop 8 didn't deny them the rights you speak about.
Gay's getting married is not about rights, its about ACCEPTANCE. Forcing you to accept the way they live.
Now I personally voted NO on 8. They should be allowed to marry. But I also agree the whole gay rights movement is not about rights but about you being forced to accept them and the way they live. Some of the people in this world will do their best to not ever recognize that way of life.

It has nothing to do with accepting people for how they live. Just admit why people really voted for it, because they goto church on sundays and listen to their hate mongering pastors tell them how being gay is a choice and gay marriages will breed gay children throughout our country. It's PURE fear mongering and nothing else. Claim otherwise and your lieing to yourself.

Unfortunately? I completely disagree. The constitution was created to protect minorities from majorities, as much as individuals from the government. This law getting overturned is not unfortunate at all.
This law passing in what should be a progressive, forward thinking state is what is unfortunate, lobbying and hate prevail!

It's been awhile since I've been to a church, but I don't recall any hate-mongering. That totally goes against what's supposed to be preached. I'm sure it happens though, unfortunately.
People tend to forget about the New Testament.

The General Accounting Office in 1997 released a list of 1,049 benefits and protections available to heterosexual married couples. These benefits range from federal benefits, such as survivor benefits through Social Security, sick leave to care for ailing partner, tax breaks, veterans benefits and insurance breaks. They also include things like family discounts, obtaining family insurance through your employer, visiting your spouse in the hospital and making medical decisions if your partner is unable to. Civil Unions protect some of these rights, but not all of them.

  No, I'm not.
  Here's my source: http://lesbianlife.about.com/cs/wedding/a/unionvmarriage.htm

And no, it says nothing about having to accept the way gay people live. In fact you'd probably hear less from gay people if you gave them the same rights as heteros. It's not like you can really argue that traditional marriage is a "holy" and "sacred" thing anymore considering almost 50% of hetero marriages end in divorce.
The freedom to marry is as fundamental as freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Let people do what they want, as long as it's not harming anyone, and that's why our country can be a great place to live.
