I agree with you we need to pay taxes.
But for example, if we all payed 30% of course the wealthy will pay substantially more, but it still fair to everyone. Why should the more you make the higher percentage you pay?
I did not mean to imply that people who do not make a high income are lazy.
What I am saying is motivation to make more, if you will be taxed an increasing amount, is slim. And ridiculously that going up a bracket can actually mean less money in your pocket.
So again, why is it that wealthy should pay a disproportional amount to anyone else? Why should it be as the more they make there taxes increase?
The reason there is a sliding scale for taxes is because at lower levels people spend a larger portion of their income on necessities. With a 30% tax on a $8k/year income you would basically tax that person's food, shelter and transportation. Without those basic needs people won't be an adequate work force and will further lose income and just end up in poverty and misery. A 30% tax on $200k income, you are taxing not the needs but portion of the wants. You can still live without it, maybe you would be less motivated to produce the extra income but you won't be on the street. There is no question that taxation should be on a sliding scale to be fair or to make sense for the economy as well. I don't know what exactly the percentages should be but in a recession and excess spending and deficit, I think taxing the wants of the wealthy is better than taxing the needs of the poor.
Obviously something is wrong with the current system or we wouldn't be where we are. Putting a little more burden on those above $250k income is not unfair imo but is also better for society in general.
