Does it not seemed fundamentally flawed that the more you make the more you are going to have to pay out of your pocket? When you could just do nothing, stay in a mediocre job, never strive for more, and be taken care of? That does not resonate anywhere with you?



The wealthy should pay higher percentage of taxes for the same reason not-so wealthy people pay higher percentage than the people who are below the minimum taxable income (who don't pay any taxes). If everyone was to pay the same percentage of taxes- that would be 0%- equal to the income tax paid by the poorest people.

Saying that everyone below certain income is lazy, mediocre, doesn't work hard and expects to be taken care of is just ridiculous. Income is not proportionate to how hard or smart you work. It's a result of supply and demand and basically the value society places on that persons work. It could be a talent you were born with, or you lucked out or whatever. If you were born with the talent and desire to do something society doesn't care much about or is very common- chances are you would work "hard"- whatever that means but you won't get wealthy. Does that make you lazy or mediocre? I don't think so.
