Skunk let's be honest, this game looks like a really really shitty version of Savage, both gameplay and graphic wise. And even that's pushing it.
I'm not sure how long it's been in production, but I do know it has been quite a bit longer than five years. Just to keep up with the industry, they would have had to completely recoded the engine at least three times by now. In a competitive market, that isn't a good enough track record for publishers to even begin considering wasting resources on a first time game company.
To be fair, it sucks that the gaming industry works this way and believe me when I say I want nothing more than for a game to come out that boasts as high a level of pvp content as Darkfall does. When you step back and look at it both from a historical and business point of view, you will come to the grim realization that this game is never coming out, and in the miraculous event that it does I can almost guarantee you it will be nothing but a huge upset for everyone looking forward to it.
Game companies get "signed" by publishers much like music artists do. If your shit sucks, you're not getting signed, hence the delay obviously. Not to say that there aren't good bands that aren't signed, you get the point though, it's a money thing.
