Responding to Rainman,
You choose to believe in something that is fake as the truth. Fine. However, that doesn't give you ANY RIGHT to share what you think as the "truth". As gospel. You can't preach your intentionally unsubstantiated claims to other people when it is only true to you. That's the problem with religion. It's not about YOU. It is never about just YOU. Admit it or not it is about converting others to your belief system. Your so brainwashed you can't even see it for yourself.
Not to butt in but, I'm unsure what you mean about any right to share what you think as the "truth" of the gospel. I'm concerned why he is fundamentally not able to share what he believes is truth... Isn't that what everyone in this thread is doing? Arguing truth in their own lives? Indeed you are doing the same (albeit opposite) thing by arguing against it, isn't that what this is about?
Everyone should be able to share their thoughts and be respected individuals.
You are absolutely correct that religion isn't about "YOU", and it never is. Converting others comes out of God's word, it's as if you held a great secret, a wonderful possession, and all you wanted to do was share it with friends, wouldn't you?
Sharing it however should be of one's personal self, not preaching, and certainly not right-wing evangelicals of the midwest, but sharing your faith (whatever it might be) should come out of service and caring for others.
Jesus did not preach a religion, he gave himself. And really at the heart said "Follow me".
