Have you read or heard of David Eddings? I read the first and second series he wrote and they were fucking awesome.
Series 1: The Belgariad
Series 2: The Mallorean
Series 3:The Elenium
Series 4:The Tamuli
Highly recommended, you will get into it and won't stop reading it, very motivating reading.

though, kite runner is amazing, pounded it out in 1 day. definitely recommending that book

got assigned kite runner in poli sci and ended up loving it. only other books i've read were lord of the rings. and some novels of the phase series. oh and the xanth novels.
