I think you are underestimating how fast technology is growing. I think we will see everything you said in that post in our life times. You won't need to freeze yourself when you die. If you live to 70-80 years old you will be in the time frame that some refer to as "singularity". Of course this is heavily disputed. The technology getting to that point isn't disputed, however the ethics is.
Like skunk was saying. There will be a LOT of people against it. If any goverment is in charge of it, it is over for personal freedoms. If it is something independant then it is the key to living forever.
Once we know how the brain works, we can just put all your memories, feelings, and who you are. What some people may call a "soul". Place that on a 3.5" floppy. If you die or get killed. Just your physical body will die. They will just plug your info into a new machine/body.
Because of this, computers will claim to be human, technically they will be right. There also may be rare instances where there are two of you in existence. Would killing one of them just be removing a duplicate or murder?
