I was getting unpredictable but somewhat frequent lockups on mine regardless of game played. Anytime it would do a "load" (eg - starting a new game, or completing a play session and loading the main game menu) it would potentially lock up. Once loaded, things would work fine. The bitch was when it locked up after completing a game - for instance, I complete a game of NCAA football (in carreer mode), win, and then lock up before getting back to the main menu thus losing my progress and having to replay the game.
After many support calls, I sent my unit into Microsoft for a new disc reader. One of the technicians I talked to indicated that they had a very high incident rate of bad disk readers that would do this. Since getting it back, I've only had the problem once (6 months now).
