I hate to say it, but the pk way of life is about to go downstream... WoW banks a BILLION AND A HALF dollars yearly on subscribers, You think anybody is going to try to derail that forula? Do you think anyone CAN make something more economical? WoW is a beast that cannot be fed. I pplay Wow, You know why? There is nothing else. Plain and simple. Watered down pvp is better then sitting on my thumbs praying that Dartkfall will come out. Oh and btw, It's never coming out. Or If it does my grandkids will be playing it. I would love to see a shadowbane 2 or another UO. but I have a feeling it's going to be a long time. I miss SB, I really do. Loot is fun, Burning 6 months of someones life down in 2 hours is fucking hysterical. But there is no way we will see a game of that "Caliber" again. The People Have spoken, and they said they want hard pve challanges and fluffy pvp with NO risk what so ever.

thats why i dont get why we dont go and play on the preuor pvp UO shards. people on here are bitching up a storm about that shit. there ARE shards that are soooo close to what UO was (minus the exploiting and house looting that i know some of you loved). its skill and pking. but we still bitch and complain and flame those who play whatever game they want. i say fuck you all, im gunna play what i find fun. and if its a big fucking monster that has bad fucking ass weapons from a game ive liked since i was a kid then suck my dick cuz thats what im gunna play. i dont care what color writing you quote it in.

The onlt prob with player run shards is: a) Con speed, some can be so ungodly slow. Since the guy is not making $$$ running it, he can't throw in a fat pipe (ie: T3). b) Game ending exploits. Someone finds the achillies heel, and within 48 hrs the shard is dead. The guy(s) making the shard don't have the resources to test everything. The customer has no "skin" in the game (ie: paid account) so they can walk away.

Well said, couldn't agree with you more. I suspect the next wave of MMO's that have what we like will be of a different nature, and someone is probably cooking it up in their garage now. I agree with your thoughts 1000%. Whats the reward without a risk?

well not all true. the shard i was playing on (others did too) is ran and the server runs pretty smooth. the only thing that was annoying was the server saving (takes about 10 seconds of pausing and its not very often) and the server has been up and running for quite some time now. UO Hybrid. I dont play it myself but i did and it was a lot of fun pvp. but they have a few things that are gay. they got the stun mages, alchy mages, and heal mages. not just sword/fencing/maces mages. but the ping times were fine, its a west coast server.

I agree with your thoughts 1000%. Whats the reward without a risk? Yea I feel the same way, which is the reason why i'm just going to wait for a new type of mmo to come out. Because Wow is so popular, companies wont want to make games like uo? ^ I call bullshit. I use to post on different wow server forums talking about UO and no one had any idea of what uo even was... nor did they know about AC, and some had not even heard of SB. This leads me to believe that atleast 70% of the wow population (6 million ?) are first time MMORPG players. Had these same players played a game like UO, i bet most would find wow quite boring. But they dont because they were never exposed to the greatness of UO. But one thing I will thank WoW for was bringing MMORPGS mainstream, they passed the one million subscribers, and even had an episode on southpark about em. You can sure as hell bet that companies are coming up with different types of MMOs to appeal to the surging crowd of players.

I would suspect that as the population of gamers increases, then the relative population of those that enjoy "risk -vs- reward" will increase to the point where it is a profitable market. I think we were there with SB, however the game mechanics burned it out (who wants to be up 24/7 defending a virtual castle widget?). There is a game balance where you don't have to log in 24/7 yet want to log in a lot. I think UO screwed the pooch with the town muffins and crap in factions. Hold the damn thing for 24 hrs? Hell, we all have lives. Only Arch could do it (due to lots of free time in Med School, thats slack ya know). UO was a great game, and it didn't have 3D, 4D or 5D graphics. The music was turned off, the graphics did not have phong shading and real life texture maps. I've worked in the game industry for a long long long time, and did several series of lectures on game production with the trade groups. I always stated that the sound should be turned off, the graphics need to be turned into blocks, then play it as it is developed. See if it is fun, because then you are playing the game, not the art or the sound.
