everyone not in LoD is prey. Sometimes you use or need what the prey has, sometimes you just want them as a trophy. Any game I play needs to support that.

I always look as killing people and taking their stuff helps me not have to farm or shop for equipment. Of course in UO, especially near when I quit, I had so much stuff from killing people that I would have never needed to farm or shop for anything again.
Plus there was nothing more amusing then running into a room where you are outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1 and have 3/4 of the people recall when they saw a red name leaving a nice managable number of victims. And of course gating people to small islands and generally being a prick were always fun moments.

Looting add's a ton to the game.
1) When you get good stuff you don't want to loose it so you get an emotional response when you do.
2) People won't be so stupid in PVP and charge in when they know they can loose items.
3) People cannot come back into instant combat unless they are prepared. (Death Penality could stop this)
4) It's a reward for spending time killing people and encourages world PVP.
All PVP games should have FULL loot and a death penality, any game with out is carebear. On those grounds even shadowabane fails as its only an inventory loot system.
If WoW created a server that had full item loot, FFA PVP, Deathpenalty and got rid of instances I would play.

WoW with full item loot would never work, and thats why SB doesnt do it either. Thats why UO was so successful (until they added more retarded items) because you could craft stuff. You didnt mind losing shit cuz what? 30 leather worth of armor and 5 ingots for the katana? thats nada zip zero zilch. if they made WoW full loot nobody would play because you have to go and farm for the decent shit. now if they made things easier to get (i.e. buying 10k ingots for 100k and being good for life.) but that doesnt work like that. because in a game for it to continue it needs to change and make it appealing to the public. this of course we already know. but ill take skill over loot, and pvp over pk. never was a fan of pking, i liked talking my shit (as i know we all remember) when i ended someones life.
but im glad im not the only one who feels this way, i was expecting just a ton of shit talk lol <img src="/~stretch/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

It would be great if people did loose there mind in the game thats what I want them to do. And soon things would balance out, I get ganked in Blackrock mountain. Plexx, Obidiah and me gank some guy in Scholomance he drops all his purples , I throw them on even though I just lost my shit I just took someone elses.... That person cannot come back for my shit cuz he is still in death peanality and get's pk out side of ogrimmer for talking shit in town......... Mounted combat would be cool aswell.
As far as pking goes I love it, I will pk anyone. One of my most favorite activities in Shadowbane is pking somone AFK like one of my guildmates sitting in town, then I go ahead and loot them aswell. They only time I wont pk a guildmate is if they tell there busy or somthing then I will go gank noobies.

pvp on mounts would be sick in WoW. but what stretch said would work. just gotta make the materials way more accessable and the gear drop much more. course you can get the better crap but what seperates UO from WoW even if they added that is that most of the good gear requires teamwork and people, which is what is the most appealing to WoW, rather than killing lich lords for an hour by yourself. i donno i dig WoW. i like the way you can move your guy jump around i like the engine i guess thats what that is. just doing raids for years was not fun. but they keep fixing that so now it requires less and less people. so gettting decent gear is easier and easier. and now with the expansion my friend was showing me gear that was dropping on regular mobs and they were better than set items that i spent hours to get. so in a way it seems they're SORTA steering in that direction. but full loot will never happen.

MMOs are in a bad state right now. The current market has so many shitty MMOs that it makes me cry. Companies dont want to make another UO; resulting in sad gamers such as myself.
The reason why UO was so great was because it had so many options and adventures packed into it. That is what I think ALL future and presnt MMOs lack, a game that appeals to many because theres so many different activities to do.
In UO you could be a "rares" collector, a PK, an ANTI PK, a dungon dweller, a real estate agent, a craftsmen, a fisher, a fucking pirate, a thief, etc etc etc.
The looting system for UO was probably what made me stay. It created an emotional "rush" that no other MMO has even come close to giving me.
Equipped with my vanq q staff and 100 of each reg, I roll through Bucs Den only to see 15 lod begin attacking me.. I begin to run, hoping I dont die because I dont want to lose my items. That was the thrill UO gave me, it gives you a rush..
Or the feeling when your looting someones house, that was another heart rush it gave me
Or the feeling when you just pwned someone and you loot there body.. that was a rush
wow doesnt deliver that. Wow started with a lot of hope and promises but it took a turn towards care bear.
Whatever.
I dont play MMOs anymore because its pointless. I was spoiled by the greatness of UO so its hard for me to be interested in any MMO because they all suck compared to UO smirk
