I thought you could disable that in the prefrences file or something... I think I disabled because it was just annoying.

I was running from Yew to Britain and I had an orc helm that I looted when 20 of us killed and orc. Needless to say I got res-killed many times by bears, ogres and ettins hanging on to it.
