This has quickly turned into a huge deal. The IDF has entered Gaza territory in an attempt to recover the hostage. They've taken out two bridges and the power supply for Gaza as well. Their air force did a fly over of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's palace.

Sounds pretty ridiculous to me. Destroying a bridge to save a soldier and flying over another leaders place of work... sounds like some major taunting by the israelis.

Yeah, seems like a bit of an over-reaction... But that probably sounds a bit hypocritical coming from a US citizen who's country invaded and currently occupies Iraq. *shrug* The two situations are a bit different. Its more like the police shutting off all routes in and out of LA and killing all the power to the city because one of thier officers was kidnapped by a gang member. Its not going to help gain any trust from the people there... Instead hundreds of thousands of people are left in a crisis, and they all can point the finger at the police (or in this analogy Isreal).
I guess after all the bull-shit Isreal has put up with in the form of suicide-bombers, rocket attacks, kidnappings... they are just fed up with it... They probably want to show that they just wont take it anymore, and any little action is going to draw a strong re-action. Seems like this conflict may never end unless an all out war takes place and there is a clear victor.
I don't know enough about Syria to comment... All I ever hear from news sources is that some rebel leader or another is from that country... and of course, you cant trust a media that tends to focus on the negatives. Can any (knolwdgeable) person tell me about that country's political alignment and whether it produces anything besides guerilla leaders?

Bal if you have ever read the bible or the quran, you'd know there will never be an end to this. Those people have been at it as long as there has been dirt to stand on.

yah, i realize that. however, its all a big game...buncha finger-pointing and a general lack of taking any responsibility. not all palestinians are hamas. its about time the palestinian people took their future in their own hands. in case you missed it, palestine is a syrian puppet and in israel's case (and i agree), have no reason to believe simply talking will solve anything.

They built schools and provide medical services etc when the PA was MIA. Ultimately they are popular for their actions and beliefs, not just their hate of Israel.

They did this with money from the United States and Israeli people. Hamas has two factions..political and militant. The two factions don't even agree nor get along. They have recently kidnapped and assasinated each other.
Hamas wont stop until there is no longer an Israel. Israel pulls out of the Gaza strip and Hamas claims victory. Israel should cut off all aid, shut down all crossings into Israel so no Palestiniians can come into Israel to work. Siege Hamas until they are so destitute they come to the table to talk surrender. If Iran wishes to bail them out by sending hundreds of millions in aid then let Iran go broke doing so.
Hamas is a terrosit organization. They are murderers of children and should be placed in jail for life. I would pay for it

lol.
You think that just because not every American voted for Bush that we wouldn't be held responsible as a nation for the actions of our military? I wouldn't accept our military intentionally targeting non-combatents (ie civilians) especially on an almost WEEKLY basis, and neither should the Palestinians.
The helplesss don't deserve to starve, but don't blame the Israelis.
Everyone needs to come down harsh on the Palestinians. They need to stop the games and take responsibility.

I don't think Israel even wants to occupy Gaza; it would just create a headache, with no benefits. I agree that this campaign/or whatever you want to call it, isn't going to solve the big problem.
They will not be able to solve the underlying problem alone though. As long as the international community keeps letting the Palestinians get away with terrorist attacks, Israel will keep retaliating. And even if the Israelis stopped, the terrorists won't.
If the Palestinians want to end it, they'll take a hard line against the terrorists. An extremely hard line.

get Hamas to enter true political legitimacy (while controlling their military wing)

This wont happen in our lifetimes.
