Sadly, it should never have gotten that far. Obviously he was not dealing with a sane individual. When he wasn't obeying the verbal orders he should have been taken. When he went back to the truck and just reached in, that's a huge red flag. The deputy should have been ready to shoot. When the Deputy saw the gun and continued to give orders (perhaps with the exception of one simple order "drop the gun"), he was making a mistake. The Deputy should have been working a game plan to drop the guy. IMHO, the shitbag should never have gotten one shot off.
