one of the first to do what he does, and so was ozzy. im not the biggest sabbath fan, but if you think that slayer has a high pitched voice you need to relisten to "God Hates Us All". and realize that what they do with a guitar takes 10x more talent than taking a cd you sold 10 million copies with and just redoing all the shit on a computer.................. theres no right and wrong, but theres fact with music. and the fact is that most metal musicians can play BETTER than most of the gay shit sabbath is talking about. and they're lyrics are not nearly as gay. slayer's shit yea its satanic oooo cuz he says god hates us all but you dont hear him talk about satan at all....take Soulfly for example, i dare you to listen to Soulfly and say thats satanic.

What gay shit are you reffering to? I mentioned one band, Dream Theater, because it was fresh in my mind at the time of the post. DT is progressive metal, and well respected by anyone you think may be better. Listen to ' This Dying Soul' from 'Train of Thought' and honestly tell me that anyone is actually technically better than the bass, keyboard, guitar or drummer. Most ppl just can't get past the singer, which is one of the reasons why musicians are pretty much the only ones that listen to it. I agree with everything else you said. Sepultura is better than Soulfly imo. As far as lyrics, I could give a fuck less what anyone is singing about. I could be satan or puppies and I wouldn't care if the music is good. Some lyrics just make for more interesting songs, like Icing on a cake. I think Iron Butterfly was actually the very first heavy metal, but they only made one albumn and only one of the songs is really any good, "In-a-gadda-da-vida".

I was just generalizing. I've heard enough of Slatyer to realize that their vocals don't do anything for me. I think they sound stupid as hell too. Heavy metal just isn't my cup of tea. I understand some of the shit they do with the guitar is pretty sick and impressive shit... But like I've said, I don't give a fuck. He could play the guitar with his dick blindfolded and I still wouldn't like HEAVY METAL because it just isn't my style. Again I was generalizing, I know that every metal band isn't Satanic, or pretending to be Satanic. But I'd say generally that most of them play the, "I love the Devil," card. Am I wrong? I'm not even defending Linkin Park, they are just "OK." I'm just saying there isn't good or bad music, except in your own mind.

Mike Portnoy's beats are too jagged and all over the place for it to be progressive, he's a loose cannon when it comes to drumming. He's probably one of the best drummers in the world, but too much can be a bad thing. I'd classify Dream Theatre as a mix between butt rock and new age metal, definitely not Progressive. Examples here: Mike Portnoy (Lots of Fancy footwork, not so progressive, kinda made me laugh that in one of these videos he has like 10 snares and symbols he doesn't even use.) Mike Portnoy Danney Carey (Focused, actually makes use of the drums he needs. Obviously Progressive, very steady and clean, tried to find more vids this is the only one I could find.) Danny Carey

I disagree. The music is ridiculously progressive imo. When I first heard abut it in Modern Drummer, it was classified as progressive, and everything I've ever read about it says it is too. That's really the only argument I can make about that. It's pretty tough to prove something like that, but you definitely know what your talking about. MiKe Portnoy is a self proclaimed 'more is more, and more is better" drummer. Yeah his drumset is a fucking monstrosity. infact he put together a 5 peice just for one of the songs on I forget which album just to try and get away from all the different instruments and play straight ahead rock. He does use most of his equipment though throughout the DT catalog. even the crotales and white noise maker. Definitely one of the best in the world. He does drum clinics all over the place. Danny Carey is also one of the best in the world, and definitely progressive in every sense of the word. Technically flawless, possibly from his drum and bugle corps background. I doubt there is anyone in the world that can play a 3 over 4, which is the foundation of many of the tool tunes, in more interesting and original ways. Both of these guys are in my top ten fav drummers, and equally as talented imo.
