Just curious as to which one of us here rides motorcycles ? Was looking into buying one, but couldnt figure out what would be a good beginner bike. Been visting other motorcycle forums and opinions vary anywhere from 250 to the 600's.
Originally thought ninja 250r was pretty cheap and i could afford it new (only 3k) and i dont think i would cry if i dumped the thing a few times either... but i hear so many different opinions it boggles the mind.
for me, this is just going to be a weekend toy type of deal... i dont really enjoy traffic and just want to cruise around for fun... nothing more. no traffic, no racing... just relaxing and having fun. also wanted to keep the cost below 5k.
any opinions from current riders?

at first you'd be just fine with a 250.... but after a month or so, you'll wish you had more power.

250 is shit dont waste your money. You can kill yourself on any bike so get a bike that is suited for your riding style and body type. If your a short asian dude that weighs 150 pounds get like a 600. If your a fat tall white guy like Dirtylove get a 1000. If you like to ride in streight line get a 1000, if your more into moutains and shit get a 600.......
I personally ride a stock YZF-R6.

well , here is the thing... i can see that the 250r's hold their value really well ( provided you dont dump the shit) and I can resell it in a year after I get some decent experience riding it, and then upgrade to the 5 - 600 range.
I might lose out maybe about 600 - 800 bucks on depreciation and maitenance fees? maybe not even that much.....
Just want soemthing to help build my skill level up....

It such a huge power range diffrence between the 250-600. I learned on a 250 and had to relearn to ride on 600. Counter steering, balance issues are gona be same if your ride 250 or a 600. I just would not bother with a 250. If you hike and chicks on 250 its gay. A 250 is like a fucken moped on steriods, ghey........... Just buy a easy to learn to ride 600, like a Honda CBR, make sure to get framesliders and good riding gear you should be fine. Cali has some killer places to ride espcially flat land everyone comes to fresno to ride........ like in the movie Biker boys <img src="/~stretch/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
