That when you dont have medical insurance and you have a life threatening illness that you are pretty screwed as far as finances go. In my case I am getting my medical paid for but If I didn't have any family or friends that give a shit about me I would be homeless right now with the lack of money the state provides for living. I think they do need to fix things so that ppl that really do have emergencies can take the time needed to get healthy and not have to worry about money too much. I'm not lazy or stupid, or trying to milk the system, If you think all ppl that get help are leeches or weak, go get yourself a shot of ABVD(chemo) or radiation and tell me how you feel in the morning while you dry heave.
HOWEVER, John Kerry is a flip-flopping faggot and I dont trust him, or think he has the balls to protect us from ppl that want to kill us. Bush does, and if we all get nuked because we have a pres that wont stck up to the bully down the street we wont really have to worry about medicare will we?
I agree with Couls that businesses shouldnt be forced to provide coverage, but I do think there should be something more to help ppl that genuinely need it. Ppl are not all able to have health insurance at all times in life. There was a recent news story here about an old man that robbed a bank to pay the co-pay for his wife's chemo. People shouldn't have to make that kind of decision IMO.

Smokers, and lungcancer plague the medical system
these are lifestyle choices people
Why should I pay for Fatty mc Fatsters health problems due to being fat?
Why should I pay for Mr.Smokers cancer treatment and cancer drugs because he decided to smoke?
If the medicare system were to DROP coverage from people that have lifestyle induced problems- then I would be happy to pay
But I dont wanna pay because someone else likes McDonalds

Why should anyone do anything for anybody ? Its a social contract, an agreement amongst all living in a community or nation that they will honor each other to a point, help those less able and so on.

Now 500lb people more then likely have done this to themselves, but so many times the poor and elderly, the shut-ins ect don't have the money. Its not the lazy, fat or not willing people it effects, it those listed above.

Think, your healthly and young, when your old, maybe fat and bald and have no job since it was outsourced and you have no medical then say the ame thing. But I doubt you think that could happen to you, or care if it has to others.

I'm certain if you queried our resident hardline conservatives, you would see ZERO contribution to such things as the American Red Cross etc.... They for sure feel that is a worthless endevour helping parasites (like in Florida right now).
I, as a foreigner here in the USA, donate every year to the American Red Cross. This year I have done so twice (due to their low cash reserves). I also donate to the Blind here in the USA and other charities.
2 Years ago, I donated 15K to American charities, voluntarily. Last year was very bad for profits, so I was only able to donate 6K.
Where the hardline conservatives are saying "fuck the blind, let em get hit by busses, fuck the handicapped, fuck everyone but me", I as a foreigner am taking care of their countrymen who need help.
All this while they are all for handing out MarsBars in Bagdad which cost $4 due to Halliburton.
Do they hate their own countrymen & women so badly that they'll feed Iraqis before their own? They leave their own to be fed and clothed by foreigners like me.
And they certainly won't thank me or anyone else for doing this, thats an admission of failure of character.

I give to charities every year, and I am about as conservative as they come on this board.
Nobody I know says "fuck those who cannot take care of themselves." We say "fuck those who refuse to take care of themselves". There is a big difference there.
The Red Cross is one organization I do not give money to. They are racist against Jews for one thing (refusal to admit the Red Magen David), and they are corrupt for another. They even have a history of shielding Islamic Jihad and Hamas members from the IDF. Fuck the Red Cross.
The Salvation Army is a much better organization.

When was the last time Israel has given to another country for help or support. Just because the Red Cross helps Palistine residents does not make them terrorists.
They help poor people stuck in a war between Israel and Millitant Fighters.
