For those of you who have been in on the policitcal debates in these forums (and those who haven't) I just found this test that gives an interesting perspective on where you stand in the political spectrum on a host of issues.
Cool thing is the results are divided into 4 quadrants covering econmic and social views as opposed to just left and right. (This helps solve the age old comment I'm a fiscal republican but a social democrat) Much more revealing in my opinion.
The test is here http://www.politicalcompass.org/
My results were
Economic Left/Right: -4.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.08
That puts me down by the Dali Lama and the Rev Al Sharpton (egads!).

I think I scored liberal more because of my sance on abortion, and the one guilt question of "should handicapped people be allowed to reproduce." If I didn't have feelings I'd say no, but I caved in and said my underlying belief is the state shouldn't tell a person what to do to an extent, as with business.
And I think another question on that survey is bunk. The one saying "Should businesses have to be told how to protect the environment?"
I had done a case study on manufacturing plants/power plants in the south eastern states. And it spoke about how the federal government fine certain plants to modify their plants to emit less pollution which cost X amount, but in the short run and continuing after that saved the corporation multiples of the cost to modify the plant because it made the plants more efficient. So long story short protecting the environment doesn't hurt technology or the economy (even individual businesses). SO I got marked down by saying they "should" be kept in check.

Ya I agree it isn't perfect, but I believe it was realtively accurate in my case. I'm definately very liberal socially, but thought I had more of a free market stance than my results reported. If I had to guess what quadrant I would have been in without taking the test I would have guessed the bottom left so in general I thought the resluts were pretty good?
Was that a HBR case you were talking about? I'd like to check it out. Was that from B-school?
