Rainman's right, I bounce periodically for several nighclubs and I can say this, every single person backs up a step before they take their shot. Staying in close like that does neither of them any good. In fact, a good wrestler would be able to throw down, but for throwing punches or using weapons, being up close is no good.
I don't get excited like that when someone decides to get buck wild. Let em do their shit, when they get tired of it they can either step up to the plate or shut the fuck up. Of course not many people like to tangle so I use size to stay out of it mostly, but if someone decides to dance, a pair of 21s awaits them.
As far as the sucker punching mook goes, it is common knowledge that if someone maneuvers long enough they will eventually get on your visual blind side. The trick is to be aware enough to hear what is going on around you and be ready to react on an instant.
I can see Rainman has been in and around this stuff to know what he is doing, you might do well to listen to him. I know I have been around it enough to know he is right.
