Probably around the same time ww2 ended the ottoman empire and helped create a SECULAR turkey (which uneducated religious zealots of any kind would hate), and a JEwish state (I.E. Israel).
Granted it was Britain's idea to have the Jewish state first and they implemented it since they saw over that region after WW2.
