You read the same media rubbish we all did, and interpretted the same as everyone would/should/did.
It was tailored to give the impression that Iraq was bristling with Al Queda guys who were getting onto planes full of bio & WMD and would be arriving on the atlantic seaboard within a day in order to fly through joe publics bedroom window and kill his family.
Not true, but great for plastic sheet & duct tape sales.
Sadaam & Al Queda were as close as Protestants & Catholics in Northern Ireland. Both Christian, not friendly to one another.
It was what was fed to us that gave us the impression, was a good sales job and a very high % of the population believed it.
When taken to task on it, the back peddling was not as newsworthy, thus it didn't get the grand airplay.
If you saw any of the retractions as the truth was drawn out of people with great effort, it was hilarious. The word play and back peddling was a marvel to watch, and was utterly stupifying.
The population was lied to in a grand manner, and it was glossed over with cheap parlor tricks and symantics. If properly investigated, there would be criminal charges at very high levels, as well as what would amount to treason charges.
