Nearly halfway through the first decade of the new Millennium where technology advances by leaps and GHz, a lot of people today get suckered into playing games of pocketbook catch-up for this new computer or that new gadget.
Advanced technology isn't for the geeks with the know how anymore. For example, two aging desktop systems and five obsolete cell phones later, even Snarfs Grandma can do a passable digital do-wop.
The catch is, not unlike Janet Jackson's boob is to the Superbowl, are the populace at large Enter The Matrix ready. Newbs get fished for the latest and greatest technotoys only to flounder until they learn how to swim, one tech support call at a time.
We've become a society of geeks on training wheels, where technology is advancing too fast for the majority of us to really get to know our digital companions before we discard, and move on to the next.
But I digress. Actually I'm just frustrated that I crashed my good computer and I can't seem to figure how to get it working without calling out an SOS to Forage.
My new computer is coming Thursday. Customized Alienware system, top of the line processor, drool worthy graphics card and whole thing is colored in-your-face-I-don't-care-if-you-sneer Pink.
Once I get the broken computer up and running, I want to set up a network. The Alienware has (quoted straight from the website) "3com Gigab it Ethernet Adapter" and the Dell has "Integrated 10/100 Ethernet". I'm safely assuming the latter is Intel.
So, as a gamer, should I go wireless, or with what I have can I even do that? Or if I stick with cables, will this ensure more of a stable network and gameplay experience?

100mbit full duplex is faster than wireless and you don't have to worry about people being able to see what you're sending across your network. plus it costs less.
ps you wasted your money on the alienware. can build something faster for far less $$$

If you want bad packet loss and want 1,000+ pings for gaming, go wireless. Stick with ethernet if you use your network to play games, otherwise you'll be sorry. Plus wireless networks are less secure, 2 strikes , 3 strikes you're out. Ethernet 4 Life

as the other dewd posted its cheaper to build a new computer and you have some sort of realization on what parts are actually in your computer... Or try it your self making a computer.... its pretty simple.... just matching things up... or in girl terms kinda like matching your dress with your shoes.... the case lights alone were an extra 100- 200 i bet....
any way building your own computer is cheaper then spending 3k on the best alienware rig any day.... Never get a computer cause it looks pretty!! omg!

I based my motorcylce buying on already having a kawasaki and liking it and money.... money was the more important one.... kawasaki had better financing offers.... then yamaha, honda, and suzuki... now for purely looks it would have been a yamaha or a cbr 600rr...
now if it just sooo happens I got a good looking bike for a good price then sooo be it... now if only the weather would clear up some this weekend I can work on breaking it in sooo i can go on the freeway...

Wireless for gaming = shit , saying anything else is fallacious, welcome to the reality of the situation bro. When you broadcast a signal you increase your chance of packet loss, interference and interception.

I had a wireless keyboard, and it died on me right when I in the middle of looting a guys tower(had some good shit in it too). I was severely disappointed, thus crushing the keyboard with my boot. DOWN WITH WIRELESS.
