I am looking to buy a KVM switch for 2 computers that I am running in my room. I got 2 monitors on my desk, and know that the KVM switch will allow me to play SB or whatever on a full screen, while I have IRC, ICQ, AIM and some other crap on another computer, while all being controlled by one kb and mouse.

That being said, I would like to know if there is any type of KVM switch that I can use to hear sound through both sound cards in both comps through one set of speakers? Ive seen stuff where you can switch between the audio of 2 computers, but I want to be able to hear *dings* in IRC and SB music, etc while I play.

Im running out of room on my desk, and need a solution OTHER than buying a new set of speakers.

Anyone know of a switch or some type of hardware that I cna buy to alleviate the situation that I am facing?

maybe im just not fully educated on KVM switches, but i thought its only for multiple PCs on the same monitor? (thats what i do)

i think what you want is a super duper dual vid card. as far as the audo...i guess you just need multiple channel audio card? i can play music and play sb...but it sounds shitty.

then again, im horrible at keeping up w/the l337 geek gear.

can't you just plug a speaker into the other computer so if you hear something out of it you can switch over?

heh, heres a combo idea

get a dual monitor video card and have the second monitor on a kvm switch.. then when you load up SB run it windowed and KVM over to a dual display.. when you're done just KVM it back so you can use your other comp with its respective monitor..

that'd probably be a relatively simple solution

Ok, you want to be able to type on and control both comps with one keyboard and mouse, but still have a view of both screens, and sound from both on one set of speakers.

Possible Solution:

-Plug keyboard/mouse into KVM switch, leaving your monitor plugged into your main comp (instead of the monitor input of the KVM switch). Bad news on your mouse though, since I know we have the same one. When plugged into the KVM switch, it sees it as a standard 5 button mouse, and doesn't allow you to use the Logitech software with all the cool programmable buttons. Not sure if that's a Windows problem, or a weakness in the Logitech software, but it's how mine works.

-Leave monitor on comp #2 plugged into it's vid card too.

-Run the cable from mouse/keyboard outputs on kvm switch to both comps.

-Get a simple Y adapter thingy at radio shack that accepts the input from your speakers, and then put one end into comp #1, and the other into comp #2. This might require some extensions depending on how far apart your comps are.

Now, assuming your KVM switch doens't freak out since there is no monitor connected (not sure if it would or not, don't see why it would), you should now have a steady display on your monitors for each respective comp without having to switch, and you should get the sound from both of your computers in one set of speakers. The only switching you would have to do would be to type on or use the mouse on comp #2. This solution SHOULD work for ya.
