I thought they announced a long time ago that Windows 10 was going to be free?

If its free why would it matter if Windows 7 is pirated or not?

I dunno I understood it to be an install process that starts from Windows running, where it checks if it's Win7 or 8.1 and gives you the upgrade/clean install options. I never heard anything about it being completely free. Either way; Woohoo, free O/S.

I run Windows 8.1 with Classic Start which I got from ninite.com(ninite is fucking amazing at setting up a new PC btw). Anyway, it pretty much makes windows 8.1 into 7.
