RANT INCOMING!
So, i'm calling Cox today, because even though they state several times on their sites that they don't throttle internet service, Bat Girl and I are getting half of what we are paying for, and our ping is horrible even on the best days. Granted, it's better than some people in the different games that we play, but still... I'm paying for 100Mbps down, at least 20mbps up, and after I reset my router, and connected to a server that was right down the road from my house, i'm only getting 50mbps/15mbps at 6:30AM. Has anyone else had these kinds of problems with Cox? I'm thinking about just going to AT&T, who i've had a cell phone plan with for 8.5 years. They also have a data limit so that high usage customers don't make other people's internet suffer, and yeah, we use almost our whole data every month, but we have 3 computers, and 3 phones on our router all the time, and shit gets downloaded, but really? I'm paying even more now than I was paying before, and our internet is half of what it's supposed to be. Half the time, we tether our phones for DFUW Sieges because it's more stable.. that's fucking sad. Paying almost $90 for only internet, and still having shitty service.. If you're in the San Diego area.. don't pick Cox.. go with someone else who's not gonna charge you out the ass for subpar service..

Your best bet would be to move to Sweden. Cox doesn't care, because you really have no other options.
btw, what is your data limit? Even 50Mbps should be enough unless you are a terrorist constantly downloading manifestos. Unstable ping/packet loss/jitter seem to be your problem.
I have no idea what I'm talking about.

300gb per month, but they swear they don't charge extra for data.. and trust me, if i could, i'd move to another country. The US is circling the drain.. but then i'd be even further from the server and have even worse ping.
Edit: Oh, you meant my speed limit? it's supposed to be 100mbps, but for the longest time i haven't seen it over 50.

Ok here is the deal.
You pay for "up to 100mps" not 100. This is the scam all cable companies run. Generally the 50-100 range is dependent on infrastructure. Meaning a node 3 blocks away could be creating a bottle neck. It takes time to find the choke point and time = money. Generally the most understaffed of cable companies are the system techs that work on the main lines. So pulling them off an outage, new lines or intermittent issues for a nerd complaining about max speeds is such low priority you are usually stuck with it.
The only way you can get this fixed is to keep rolling the dice on getting a tech out there that gives a shit. Keep rolling till you get a contractor and not an inhouse employee. Contractors get paid for every step they do, so they will gladly (if they like making money) replace all the lines from the tap outside your house to your modem. Have him get the Tx signal perfect. Generally they like it between 35-54. See if he can shoot for 45-48, this effects speed big time. He can raise it easily but lowering it might require a system tech so can take a few days.
Talk with your neighbors, Multiple issues in 1 grid usually get faster and thorough response. If you arent happy with 50 but everyone on your node is fine with it, you are shit out of luck.
TL:DR: there is very little you can do to get the company to fix this, as its low priority, you have to stay on them constantly and be fucking nice as shit to a tech. When i was a tech if you bitched at me, you would have 100 mps up until i pulled out the driveway then down to 20.

Also remember, a lot of people call it throttling, but dont realize its not intentional the majority of the time. Telecommunications have advanced so fast that most companies have pretty poor infrastructure, This was one of the major reasons for the comcast take over. Most of the other companies: TWC, charter, cox etc took the money instead of upgrading their lines.

Better than my Vyve Broadband that gets .6mb between the hours of 3pm-1am on week days and .6mb all weekend. Luckily I have a ATT Uverse connection here as well. Been fighting with them for weeks trying to get them to realize the reselling bandwidth to new customers when the old ones already don't have enough is pretty fucked, but they continue to market and do it.

Luckily, i live in chula, so we have at&t available, but they keep trying to get me to bundle. We dont want or need cable or a phone service, as we all have cell phones in the apartment.
And then I got good at WoW.
