Other countries frown upon us because of our "lenient gun laws". Amazing how smug people are about that shit too, if that guy had a pistol rather than a PVC pipe who knows how that would've went.

Hands down, gun would have prevailed because the PVC pipe guy could have easily chambered and aimed in 7 seconds, which is when he first lands a strike on the attacker.

Now if he'd been surprised, this would be an interesting discussion because of the close quarters. It would 100% depend how much practice the victim had with drawing and firing and if he kept his pistol loaded with a chambered round and on safety vs. not chambered and on safety. He did a fair amount of fighting back in the vid, considering he took like 20-30 machete hacks. I feel like he probably could pull, chamber and fire, assuming they didn't hack his draw hand as he was drawing.

I guess I also take into account the Texas situation. Because a conceal license/permit is so accessible there, there's far less crimes like these committed because people are afraid of citizens intervening during a robbery or w/e. This info may be off and kinda dated at this point, but that was at least true 10+ years ago. The fear of someone being armed deters at least a portion of would be violent criminals from acting on their tendencies.

What comes up in these conversations I've had with the smug EU guns being legal argument is; some people are crazy. If guns are illegal, crazy people aren't just going to not be crazy, you're just taking away defense from those who are innocent and possibly helpless if left to their physical ability against one or more person(s) using something other than a gun as a weapon to have an advantage. The skill index between a shotgun and a melee weapon is pretty severe. Yes, not being skilled with a gun could mean you get overpowered and killed with your own weapon. But you can't argue results as this video shows, if you don't land a critical hit because you're not skilled with whatever nearby object is available you're equally as fucked.
