Local Indiana News Cast

It seems to have been completely forgotten by police departments, the media and Americans in general that having military-style tanks patrol the streets is symbolic of a collapsing banana republic or an authoritarian Communist state.

Perhaps the main reason why police officers are being trained that veterans are a major threat is because returning vets are in a perfect position to recognize that America is beginning to resemble an occupied country like Afghanistan or Iraq.

Indeed, the city’s Police Chief justified the necessity for the acquisition of an armored ‘Bearcat’ vehicle by citing the “threat” posed by libertarians, sovereign citizen adherents, and Occupy activists in the region.

Not really, it might just mean that their SWAT would need this to deal with a situation. Happens all the time.

The nut jobs at the bundy ranch are not helping their cause either showing up with assault rifles and setting up roadblocks to check everyones ID's. I would hope in that case a tank runs over their face.

Where is your source that police offers are being trained that veterans are a major threat?

Really? lol....

Obs...this is a MRAP. It's built to resist explosive devices. Has there been a rash of Americans attacking police with explosive devices? I was unaware.

You would probably be surpised how many times the bomb unit from swat is called out. I dont see the connection between swat using this thing and all of sudden they are coming down main street in every city. I think you guys are blowing yet another thing out of proportion. Have you seen any armored vehicles coming down your street lately? Have you ever?

You need really read things before posting them.

If you are going to copy and paste things you read off Infowars then at least give us a citation so we can establish context. Your credible sources on this are Alex Jones and Mother Jones. Both organizations have the sole purpose of fear mongering for dollars.

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/08/occupy-free-state-project-dhs-police-concord

"While the sovereign citizens movement has a history of racism and violence, Police Chief John Duval now says that he doesn't actually believe the Free State Project or Occupy New Hampshire are domestic terror threats."

The police chief that was quoted is not even from Indiana, he is from New Hampshire. Do you even research what you plagiarize G-Fist?

Regardless, the video i linked is local news and has an officer saying "we have returning vets who know how to make IED's" as justification for their police force using MRAP's. I misquoted the police chief as being part of the video which he was not.

What you are not disputing is that the DHS put out this memo stating that vets have a "high likelihood" of becoming domestic terrorists.

Veterans are incarcerated at about half the rate of the general public. The overall rate of violent crime has been dropping for 20 years, so whats the justification for the use of military hardware here at home?

Ok so regardless of everything of you wrote and your fearmonger website links, we should now concentrate on one soundbite one officer said in a video.

Actually the report doesnt state that ALL vets have a "high likelihood" of becoming domestic terrorists. It says:

"In an intelligence assessment published April 7, Homeland Security singles out veterans who might be “disgruntled, disillusioned or suffering from the psychological effects of war”

So if you have PTSD or mental issues from being at war, your chance of becoming a domestic terrorist are higher. Is this new news? Remember Timothy McVeigh blowing up a federal bulding by chance?

I would start fresh this time GFist. We killed this one before it could even grow into a debate.

I'm starting to think that G-Fist is one of the "disgruntled veterans" that they're afraid of and the "spiders" searching these public threads are law enforcement checking up on him.

Additional context:

http://wreg.com/2014/04/27/wreg-finds-soldier-living-double-life-as-gang-member/

I've heard from current military that they have a huge problem with criminal organizations (Bloods, Hell's Angels, Nortenos, etc) sending their members to join the military in order to receive weapons and explosive training. Then when they discharge, those veterans train others.

And as long as the NRA and other pro-gun fanatics continue to push for the ridiculous expansion of gun rights under the 2nd Amendment, I will continue to back police organizations obtaining more and better weaponry. How can you seriously argue that the citizenry should own fully automatic rifles, then complain that police officers are obtaining the means to counter that weaponry?
